Back blade or box scraper?

I need one or the other and just wanted some advice as to which would serve me best. I have a short term need for a box scraper, but don't know if it would be something I could use in place a rear blade once I have some landscaping finished.

Don't want to buy both so any advice is appreciated!

Rent a box blade and see if you in fact like it and can use it. Around here (Maryland) you can rent them for about $50/day. You can easily find used scraper blades of all sizes at auctions or tractor dealers or implement websites (e.g., IronSearch.com) for cheap.

Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like I might get more long term use from a back blade. I'll look into renting a box scraper for my needs. Hmm, maybe I can borrow one too!

i prefer the box blade. most have chiesl plow points on them to help break up he soil or gravel to make it easier to get the material loose enough to move. you can also back up with a box blade and get into tighter spots doing that sometimes without having to get off and change the blade angle. you can set the angle on a box blade to cut just a little bit and to level an area up just go around and around in circles and never pick the blade up. it will level the area on its on.

You can add wings to some of the rear blades and although not as good as a box scraper, it does help. Depends on how much landscaping and what you intend to do afterward. I would probably rent a box scraper, and buy a blade later when I needed one.

I'm with you, I get more use out of my blade than the box scraper. each has their place but I use the blade more
