Stopped by a consignment sale this morning and saw a #44 2 bottom plow, looked like 2-12. Didn't have much interest until I walked around it and noticed the beams were awfull close together. Measured across the beams (I know how to measure a plow) and it was a 10" plow not 12s. Never seen one before. Didn't stay but know who bought it, is this a rare plow that I should try to lay my hands on? thanks

Measure between the bottoms. I think you will find the stands are bolted to the frame and are offset. The standards could be moved to the narrow or wide position. The only 44h plows we sold were eithe 14 or 16". Measure between the soles of each bottom.
It could have a clutch lift on one axle or a hydraulic att. bolted to the frame. It was a great plow and won many awards at plowing contests. Good luck. Ron

to measure the width of a plow, measure from the outside of one beam to the inside of the other.

Butch, I'd say get it if you can, I don't know if rare is the right term but interesting and unusual should fit. There were 3 frame sizes for the #44 plow 10"-12", 12"-14", and 14"-16", they list 2 sizes for each because of what Ralph already said about the standards being offset. By the way, if you are looking for rare in a #44, I would guess a 44A (or 44AH) is that. The A designating the models that transport on three wheels since the tail wheel is mounted on bails and has lift linkage to operate it. I have yet to run onto one of those. Bob

Hey Bob, was going to e-mail you about the plow but lost you address. The plow is trip lift on rubber and round spokes. Doesn't have the lift and carry tail wheel you described, just the standard 44 arangemnt for lifting the tail end off the ground. I measured the beams right side to right side and it was 10". Also eyeballed a tape from the landside of #1 to the left side of #2, 10" there to. Sure is an unusual looking out fit. If I can I'll get you a picture.

On a 44 truss frame plow, the standards were offset one inch. So by changing one for the other the plow would switch from a 2-14 to a 2-16.The furrow wheel was to offset so could be turned around to adjust to the change. Is it possible that they made one that was a 2-10 to 2-12? Just a thought.
