OK...My 48 8N had the usual "run for hours and cut it off and the no restart syndrome".
Well I figured it was the coil and sure enough slapped a new one on and it fixed the problem.
Now what I would like to know is, the old coil seemed a lot lighter that the new one I put on.
What happened to the old one that made it so much lighter? I saw no leakage of anything upon inspection of it. Could anyone tell me what happened? It's just one of those "I gotta know why" things

IMHO.. I agree with the others in ref to the potting material differences making a big difference in coil weights.

I guess you could have an oil / tar=-ish stuff.. or epoxy.. etc.. probably all weighing different..

Would B a good time to gut the old one and rig it up so you can use a real round can coil and shed your self of the Original junk good for nuttin style coil. Take a screwdriver werk around the top, lift the cover, if the innards are some what soft like tar you are in business.

Smokey,

Some coils are Oil Filled some are not. The Oil helps dissipate heat. Heavier is probably better.

Smokey; You done let all of the smoke out, thats why it is lighter.

There is no "standard" to which these parts are built, so coils from two different manufacturers probably have totally different iron cores, windings, and amounts of tar poured over the whole mess.

There's NO end to Ford coil problems, they're still going on today. Just GOOGLE "4.6 Ford coil on plug lemon".

The old one was lighter because you let the smoke out of it..... ... :)
