question about oil pump on farmall C

I posted a question a week or two ago about my filter screen assembly having liquid of some sort (sounds to thin to be oil) in hollow area of the filter screen assembly on the oil pump. I followed the instructions I received to immerse it in hot water and look for the air bubbles to find the leak.

There doesn't appear to be one! No bubbles and as far as I can tell, no additional liquid entered from the water bath.

Is it possible that the liquid inside is part of the design?

I am unable to find any additional information about this and I don't want to drill a hole and drain it when I can't find the leak and its possible that is might have been made that way.

Any additional information would be greatly appreciated!

Mark D.

I have had a few Farmalls apart and I don't recall anything weird about the oil pump screen. I seem to remember just a plain screen ? I do remember having troubles with the pump cover being warped and blowing out the gasket causing lost pressure. I had to replace a few of the shaft/gear assys. due to heavy wear too.

Mark, other than oil there should not be any other liquid in there. That being said you likely had water from condensation in it. When these are not used much some condensation can and will take place. Running it fairly hard should keep this from happening.

Mark, you should post this on the Farmall board. I would think it is made that way so it stays submerged in the oil. That is only my opinion. Ron MN.
