Never paid any attention before to the amount of fuel my 560 gasser used on the 9Ft New Holland mower until Allan was talking about his little diesel the other day.

I mowed a 16 acre field today in 3.5 hours.

It used 14 gal of gas.(:~{)

I can pull a 32 foot field cultivator with a 175 hp diesel and use 1/3 gal an acre.

Anybody got a 560 diesel they want to sell? (:~})

By the way that is last years picture,the hay is not as tall and thick this year. Darn late frost got it this year.

You bet! My 460 is maybe a little better than that,,,,I seem to run about 3 gallons an hour through it with the baler or the 9' haybine

I hear you. I got a 300 gallon diesel fill Monday. When I quit tonight and filled up the baling and raking tractors for tomorrow the tank ran dry just as the baler tractor read full. Hopefully whats in them will do me to finish first cutting. Estimating 500 rolls with 300 gallons.

Just drop the loader of your 1066 and cut with that. It will just play with the load and since you will not be in the govener it won't use much fuel. I've been cutting heavy hay with my 1066 pulling a 11 ft, 1411 NH discbine in some pretty good hills in high second and it takes around 1/2 gallon per acre.

Late frost, no, freeze, at Easter knocked back hay here in SC also. Also killed leaves on some trees. Some have not completly leafed out yet.

The hay around here is runnin 1/3 to 1/2 off to. How fast are you running , I`ve got a 489 like that and pull it with a 706 but I`m not finishing that fast . My body cant take the rough ride like it use to . Seems the ground is real rough and hard this yr., makes for a bumpy ride . We had the late freezes now were 5 in. short on rain .

I run in 3rd with the ta ahead.

Around 5 to 5.5 I think.

This mower is a 492. Don't ask me what the difference is between a 489 and a 492?????

Is that an umbrella that I see?? Bet that is creating too much wind drag and killing your fuel economy :~)

IaGary;

Them farmall gassers is thirsty devils. One farmer figured he could get 11 ft.to the gallon pulling a chisel plow with a 450 gaso.I dont remember the size of the chisel.
