I didn't care for the tin work on my HTA so I replaced the tin work with that from a 300.

Grandpa had SHTA Demonstrator (You know, a white one). It would be worth a bundle today but it was given to the neighbor. He cut it up, used the radiator as an oil cooler for his Cummins powered cattle processor and the rear end as a ski lift drum.

Does not look like it has a TA? did you mean Super H? Real SHTA's did not exist, they were dismantled at the factory. Then the 300 replaced the super H.

Hi Gary;
Interesting to see you using a "spider wheel" rake. Over here in the 1960's & 70's the most popular rake was the Vocon Acrobat which was a 3 point mounted 4 wheel rake - looks to be the same style wheels as yours. You could alter its operation to row up, spread grass, & turn over 2 rows of grass. What make is your machine?
Today everyone uses the horizontal rotor wheel tedders and rakes which dont roll the hay into a "rope" nor gather stones into the swath.
This is a Claas 2 rotor about 12 feet width, they also make 4 rotor & 6 rotor versions. Do you have this type over there?
Great to see how you guys do things.
David

Yes, but only the custom forage contractors and large dairies can afford them. I'd give my right arm to have one. You can get Claas, Vicon, Kuhn, Sirtex, and a bunch of others make them.

The rotary rakes are slowly catching on over here but due to their cost they still aren't very popular. We got a Kuhn GA4120 single rotor model last year and it's cut our drying time by about half a day which is enough that we might be adding a second one later this year.

Oh...you foolish young man. Why would you risk damage to such a rare and priceless tractor by taking it to the field? Put the original tin back on it and donate it to someone in western Nebraska that could preserve it for future generations to admire. Your lack of concern for a national treasure leaves me disturbed and troubled. In fact, I miiiggggg ttttt juuuuussssttttt tt haaaaa aavvvvve ttooooo o..... .....!!!!! !!

Gary; I have to ask, What if any do you figure the loss is on the hay when you rake with the front wheels on the down hay?? I could be using my old JD 40 for some of my raking but havent because its also a narrow front. Alfalfa grass mix for the most part. Bob

Bob,

Out here, anytime we handle alfalfa it has to be done while the dew is down. Zero loss that way and driving on the hay causes no harm.

We can't even bale when the hay is dry because it just makes "hash" out of it.

Allan

Who cares about the machine, just look at the crop. What is it, was it irrigated, fertilised???

Cheers

Mitch

Yes I fertilize my hay. No it is not irrigated.

Yield was better last year but this is better than what I thought it was when I mowed it.

Making about 4 5x6 bales to the acre. Last year it was 5 on the first cutting.

Did the "hta" evolve into the 460 that was and is popular with the tractor pullers?
