Hi I just picked up a Ford 5000 at auction, I am told its actually a 6000 although the decal states 5000. Also the brakes and 3pt hitch do not work, my guess is the hydraulic pump but I am hoping maybe something simple is wrong.Any ideas?
Thanks.

An indication that systems are not working is that you have a 6000! Also, transmission will be a select-o-speed if it's a 6000. The 5000 could have a select-o-speed but most had eight speeds.
We have had both. Good luck, Ron

Easy to tell them apart. 5000 has a 4 cyl engine,6000 has 6 cyl engine

If it's a 6000 cut your losses and dump it. It will cost more to fix it than it's worth. If it's a 5000 and has a Select-O-Speed you may be able to find a trans section back to replace the Select-O-Speed. Ford quit making a lot of the parts for the Select-O-Speed.

Curiously enough, in the town where I live, there is this place, it's really a defunct gas station turned into shade tree shop and well used car dealer. he has THREE Ford 6000 tractors. One is a nf, one is a wf, and the other has fenders etc that make it look like a standard tread tractor. They seldom if ever move around on his lot, but they're sure sitting there. Aparantly there is a least ONE collector of those things anyway!

I have three 6000 Fords that I am thinking about fixing up these old tractors as best I can. One, a commander I have been using since 1985 in my parttime farming operation. It has been a good old tractor. I recently got a 6000 wide front end diesel that I want to get in running shape. I know there is not much a future in holding on these tractors.
