Found out more on the Jeep with the PTO today. Am told it’s a 48 or 49 non military CJ 2A. Has a flathead 4 cyl unknown status. Body is very rough and there are no brakes or clutch peddle pressure. She's a project. Seller wants $595 for her. No title either. Next time I go there, I will take my camera. What do you think?

Parts are available for all the old flatfender jeeps and they have a rather large and international following. There are three pint hitchs available if you can find one. The lack of a title should not be a problem as I doubt if any states issued titles in the forties. Call your DMV and I'm sure there is a means of titling a restored antique vehicle. If you want more information do a search for CJ-3B as there is a good site in Canada with links for more information. By the way I have a 53 CJ-3B with a PTO. John

I have a 1959 CJ5 complete running gear and engine. Really, everything except the tub. It has a PTO and I have a 3 point hitch set up. I do not have the Hydraulic pump or controls, but My Jeep did come with this equipment originally. It is all for sale. It has < 14,000 miles. I am the 5th owner, and have spoken to the others. You can see the odometer and it can be part of the deal. I am asking $1500.00.

I sold a '46 Cj2A on Ebay, complete and running with the incorrect engine and lots of modifications, a real project but looked nice from a distance, for less than $400. I don't know what the PTO is worth, but if it doesn't work or is missing major parts it might be zero. However, if the jeep has column shift, and the frame or body hasn't rotted beyond reason, it might be worth what he's asking. Still sounds high to me..But then again, I'm broke this week.

If you do decide to buy it, make sure you get a signed Bill of Sale (doesn't have to be notarized, but it wouldn't hurt). That makes you the legal owner so you can get a new title, and protects you in case the car was stolen even if you don't bother getting a title. You might also want to check with a notary to see if you need anything else, but usually the Bill of Sale is enough.

the title is no big deal and you can get any and all the parts from surpuls jeeps in cal. we have two old army jeeps in our fire dept. one we got had NO title and was a basket job with a lot of work we have a great grass truck not fast but it gets on site. in wisconsin all we did was ask for a replacement and sent 4 photes with the fee and paper work .

It's all about location... if it were within 100 miles of south MS it wouldn't last 5 minutes at that price, title or not!

You got that right Gary,

No title is little issue here for something that needs no tags. I've bought title-less vehicles with no ill consequence, including ridding myself of the carcase once it was thoroughly picked over. And yes, I buy for the multitude of good parts on the vehicle.

Last time around I took what I wanted, the engine, and had two guys arguing over who would pay for the next pickings. The fourth scavenger got the remains, happily, and free (wasn't much left).

I am in Wisconsin too, and the lack of a title is a real red flag in my humble opinion.

With no title it isn't good for anything but parts, and even then you can't hardly get rid of what is left. Salvage yards really frown on a lack of title and most won't consider taking it.

Been there and done that...it is a real nightmare.

If the sellers think it can and should be restored, then they should be able to come up with a replacement title. If they cannot do that, they might not be the legal owners.

Replacement titles are only $10 or $15 to the legal owners. Really that is not a big deal, and they should be willing to do that. Even if it is part of an estate, that is not a problem to get cleared with the proper paperwork.

Just my two cents.

I agree, the lack of title is a HUGE flag. If its only for parts and given its rough condition I would pass. The parts are only good if you have a need, unless you have another CJ2 you are restoring its more rusty yard art. Been through this before, usually the parts you need are just as bad on the worn out donar vehicle as what you have on the one you are restoring.

You may want to call Jerry at J&L 4WD down on Rt 151 between Sun Prairie and Madison, WI (608-244-9146, or 608-244-9191, or 608-837-2091, or 800-236-5337)and Talk to Him about parts. Jerry kinda specializes in old Jeeps and parts. He's bought & sold and built 100's, maybe 1000's.

He's on the north side of 151 about half a mile west of SP. Either get off 151 on the Main Street Exit of 151 and turn left, go to the stop sign (T intersection) and turn left or get off at I think the Cty. C exit before You get to SP. You can see the place right on the service road from 151. My Son used to work there in the shop couple years ago. Talk to Jerry, Most of the Kids there don't know anything about old Jeeps.

definitely difficult and $$$$$$$$$$$$.$$ since these are not easy to find. i dont know about $595 for a jeep that has unknown engine condition and no title. if you had either one i would consider it. both causes me to lean towards walking away.

Check local availability for parts...might be difficult and $$$ to get them.
