Well its not totally OT,as I use my camper mostly at the shows when Im displaying!I have a Coleman Mach 3 AC rooftop unit.Works fine and cools very well for it to be on a pop-up.heres the problem, well, not for me but my wife, the fans is constantly running even when the compressor kicks off, guess its made that way as its been like that since I got it.My wife and kids are getting cold at night even if its still 80 outside, like I said it cools very well, and the fan keeps my youngest awake late,or should I say early in the morning.I myself dont have a problem with it as the fan blowing relaxs me and helps me sleep. What Im wondering is if anyone knows if there is a way to wire this thing up so the fan will cut on and off with the compressor.Ideally it would be so that the fan comes on,then a couple of seconds later the compressor comes on to help with the sudden surge of power.Anyone ever done this?

Having the fan turn off and on all night would cause me more sleeping problems than having it on all night. If she's cold, tell her to sleep closer to you! ;)

add a filter to the air outlet to make the fan more quiet or some thing like that try to make it quiet and make peace with the cook so you eat good

You could wire a thermostat with switch into the main power supply wire. Wouldn't give you a staggered start but would let it fluctuate. I'd see what Surplus Center has.

The fan is intended to run all the time. The thermostat is inside the a/c unit so it needs air flow to work properly. As someone else said if wired with t-stat you will be hot and then cold.

I hate to be the bad news guy but they are made to operate that way. Not just Coleman all of them. Its done to keep the temp as constant as possible by circulationg the air in the coach past the thermostat thermobulb thus allowing for the compressor to cycle as soon as the temp inside the unit warms to a preset temp. Without the fan running it might take longer for the thermobulb to sense that predetermined amount of change and turn on. Freezing one minute and sweating the next! Can always try it thougth, I'm just telling you what the manufacturers say.

Hey 49er you can wire your a/c the way where the fan cycles with the compressor.Locate the wire that feeds power to the fan wire it to the run side of the compressor. If you think you may have a problem see if you can locate an a/c person.Iretired after doing a/c work for 41 years.Good Luck.

I would guess that the thermostat is bad, stuck in the closed position, keeping the fan on. The compressor is probably activated by pressure switches, which apperantly still work, and that is why it would cycle properly. I'm no refrigeration expert, just my best guess. It has variable temperature control right?

It is made to work the way it is working-you can wire it as Burlgoat says--but you won't like the constant fan noise on and off and the comfort index up and down. Just tell your wife to go to sleep and let the fan noise drown out all the other outside noises--or else if all else fails make sure she is so tired (handle this the best way you can) that she falls asleep and is not aware of the fan at all.
