I am in the process of getting possession of a Ford Tractor that has been in my wifes family for over 50 years. I can not find the year but the serial number is NAA476N and the engine ser# is EAE6015-F. Can any one tell me what manual I would need and where to find the year. The tractor is rusted and does not run but I plan on restoring it and use it on my small farm. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You may have an NAA model but the numbers you gave are raised casting#'s that all tractors of that year had, the model and serial# was hand stamped and if a 1953 or 1954 will start out NAA either below the front of the manifold on the engine block or on the left front top corner of the trans. housing.

Cliff, Congraulations! You appear to have an early NAA Ford tractor. The NAA was made for production years 1953&54, the '53 model was futher designated as "Golden Jubilee"

The serial number you indicate(NAA476N) does not appear correct, you should not have an "N" at the end of the serial number. However these serial # were hand stamped, often times they are difficult to read.

There is alot of information can be found at http://members.aol.com/naa60512/serial.htm Vintage Ford Tractor Resource, take some time to explore this site, it has a wealth of information!
It will explain how to decypher your serial # as well as give a lot of technical information.

You will want to get atleast three manuals: operator's, repair, and parts. If you look at the upper left of this page you'll find under "MARKET PLACE" an entry titled "Tractor Manuals", you may also purchase them at your local NH dealer, TSC, and several on line sources.

For additional information click on the link below. As you gain more knowledge you will invariable have more questions, don't be shy about posting back with any questions, comments or pictures! We especially like pictures!

Thank You for your quick reply and you are right. The N at the end of the ser# was susposed to be a B. (Typo error)I will be picking up the tractor later this week and really appreciate your help. If I have any more questions could I have your e-mail address? I will not give it to any one else.

Thank You,

Cliff

Cliff,

I left my email open, just click on "send email" by my handle. Scott my be correct in that what you are looking at might be a casting code. Raised alpha/numeric code, cast into parts during manufacturing, only decypherable by those who have achieved "Master Wizard of Ford Knowledge" For example your engine # EAE6015-F, is a casting code. I don't to overwhelm you with too much info at this time, but if your # "NAA476B" is raised letters as I know your engine # "EAE6015-F" is, then it also is a casting code.

I think the "N" that is now a "B" in what you describe as a serial number, should not be there. Don't let it bother you. Your model/serial# is important and we'll get you up to speed real quick.

I left another link below, really good stuff! It will explain the location of your model/serial # and a couple of more important facts about your tractor.

Post back and we will get you started on the good path of fine Ford fun.

PS. I left my email open for you , go ahead and use it, I trust you will not make it available to everyone else on this discussion forum.... :o)

Thanks again for the quick reply. I go to court in the morning to get possession of the tractor. My wifes brother just went through a nasty divorce and when he borrowed the tractor years ago it broke down and was left in his barn. When my in-laws sold it to my wife & I, his ex refused to give it up even though I had a bill of sale. So I should take re-possession of it either tommorrow or the next day(fingers-crossed) I will then check for the serial numbers where you all told me to look and get back with you. Since I know nothing about farm tractors I will be needing all of your help. But God willing and if the creek doesn't rise I will get it running and back to it's original condition. Being retired will help.

Thanks again

Cliff, I wish you luck on the recovery process. I take it you are going to trailer it back home. Besides chains, binders, straps, come-alongsand tools. Bring a gas powered air compressor in case the tires are low.

Before you throw a battery in it to test fire, pull the plugs and squirt a couple of ounces of MMO(Marvel Mystery Oil) on top of the pistons. While the plugs are out, try to turn the engine over by hand. If you can turn it by hand, good if not, let it sit a couple of days then try again.

Best of luck ATW/WA

Well yesterday the friend that is working on the tractor replaced the plugs, points, & condensor along with a new battery and after flushing the gas tank(ex-sister in-law put sugar in the tank) it fired right up and I am told it runs like a champ. Thank God we drained the gast tank and flushed it before trying to start it. This afternoon I am taking the power washer over to clean it real good and try and find the serial numbers so you can tell me what type of tractor it is. He tells me he's pretty sure it is a 8N. I will keep you updated and thanks for the tip on the MMO. That is some really neat stuff.

Cliff, Good to hear you have her running. You may want to change fluids fairly soon. If you ended up with sugar in the gas tank it doesn,t take much more effort to toss dirt in the crankcase or solvents in the hydraulics.

I went through one of those really ugly divorces, not fun. I left my email open, this string is getting burried fairly deep. The link below is to the Ford discussion board, they have several specialized forums you will find interesting and helpful at various stages of restoration on your tractor.

If you have any up dates or questions, by all means post back on a new string. Use the different forums for the strengths they offer. If you need leads for parts, technical information or books feel free to ask. Take some before and after pics, you'll be glad you did.

Later

Well I got it finally got it over to a friends garage who knows tractors. At least how to find out if anything serious is wrong. I have to get a battery for it today or tommorrow. I am going to pressure wash the entire tractor tommorrow to see if we can locate the serial number. Just under the manifold back towards the seat a little I found what I think were the numbers 9174^(Could not see a NAA) Under the seat I found NAA-501-B under that in a raised letter and number F 2, and then the number 46V:3. How do I attach a picture? I am hoping that might help.
