After fighting my Crapsman mower all summer, I'm in the mood to get something different next year. Do any of you use 3 pt. finish mowers? I don't know anyone close that has one. How is the quality of the cut? I sure can't justify $3-4000 for a new Cub or Deere and the others just aren't built to last.

I'd sure like to have a finish mower for my Farmall H, but I will have to convince the wife I really do need it first!!

I mow about 3.5 acres with a 6-foot King Kutter behind a 2N. Works fine and looks about as well as the parts I used to mow with a John Deere 112.

An 8N would be nice to have because of the 4-speed vs the 3-speed on the 2N.

I bought a used 5 ft King Kutter about 5 yrs ago. It's pulled by a WC that has had some bars welded to the drawbar assembly and attaches similar to a 3 pt. It is a 'full floating' mower. They do make mowers that attach to 3pts and have 2 wheels on the back but they don't mow as even as the full float. My mower is a cheaper one and doesn't 'vacuum' the grass like the little riders or better mowers but it was cheaper than new and has worked for me. I mow about 4 acres.

I'm still kicking myself. Thanks for the replies guys. I know about the tire damage on turns, would have to be careful about that and just live with it. Turf tires would be too expensive, besides that, they look funny. ;)

I have a 72" Arts-way mower on an Allis Chalmers C tractor. It works fantastic. I also have an H Farmall, but like the smaller size of the C as I do have a few trees to mow around and in between. I was skeptical as to how well I would like mowing with a machine this large, so I kept my two 38" Murray mowers for the first year. Didn't use them one time, so I sold them and haven't regreted it at all. A finishing mower on a classic tractor is the only way to go, in my opinion.

We also have a Farmall H with the Woods belly mower. Its a great setup. One word of caution. If you want your lawn to look like a golf course you might have to get turf tires. Ag tires can cut deep on sharp turns!

I have learned to avoid those sharp turns in areas where it will show. That is the only drawback.

I own a Farmall H equipped with a 60 inch woods belly mount mower, it does every bit as good a job as any lawn mower, and does it in less time. Also, As the operator sits much higher, you are not exposed to nearly as much dust.
I paid $1,600. for the mower and the tractor as a unit. That was 5 years ago. I sharpen the blades each spring, and grease the mower each time I use it, and have had no problems at all.
I mow 1.75 acres.
