What do you think about this guy. He puts a tractor up for sale on this site. I email him the same day. I say I will buy your tractor I will bring cash. Please call me or email me. I leave him two address' and phone #. He emails back says he tried the # it didn't work. He was right. I punched my area code wrong. I send back pronto the right number. I tell him where I live. "Only a coulple hours from him" This time I tell him I will be traveling thru his area the next day, In the morning and again the evening. Tell him I want to hook up with him and buy his tractor.
I check my email constantly awaiting his reply anticipating I am getting this tractor. No response. The next day just before I leave for my journey down south I check my mail one last time. He has just mailed me this response. I have spoke with a fellow from Mississippi who called me at the number I provided. He is to meet me Thursday to buy the tractor. If it does'nt work out ill contact you. thanks for your interest. I knew there was no number thats why I did'nt call him myself. I went back to his add and checked. Maybe my computer, but there was no number given.
Guess my money on Monday is not as good as someone elses on Thursday.
What a fella!!

No harm, No foul. I'm sure that everyone has had one experience similar to this one. There was only one tractor and two people that wanted it. Someone had to get left out. It's too bad that you didn't post the right e-mail address, on the first try. You'd be a'settin' on your new old tractor. Life is full of "near miss's". This is just one more for the record book. Let it go, and try to find another tractor. There's plenty of 'em out there. Good luck, and happy tractoring, John

What made you think that you were the first contact that was made on this deal? It's not like you were talking to him in person. Next time i bet you will remember your phone #. Put it on your personal card you give to guys at show and stuff. Maybe you will be $'s poorer and tractors richer.

I am the fella that Old Timer is talking about. I very rarely sell anything from my collection so I am not a professional salesman. You won't see this tractor for sale later for a higher price because I just returned home from Louisville, Ky. where I met the gentleman from Mississippi and loaded it into the back of his pickup. If Old timer had given me the right phone number the first time he would be the proud new owner of this tractor ( photo ad #46459 ). The very next email I opened after trying to reach Oldtimer by phone was the man from Mississippi. He bought the tractor and phoned almost every day. When he reached the agreed upon meeting point in Louisville he phoned me to tell me he was there. Since I had to work until 7 am on the day we agreed to meet I did not get as early a start as he did, when I talked to him I was still 40 miles from the meeting point but he told me not to hurry just get there safely. I am sure Oldtimer is a fine gentleman also. But I gave my word to the man from Mississippi and I stood by it. I know it is frustrating,I have just missed on tractors before too.

Not picking sides, Ive been on both myself.
Just out of curiosity I went to see what tractor the fuss was over. Looks like a nice little tractor. However I did notice there is no phone number listed for the seller.

Over the years, i have sold dozens of tractors, and impliments. I can't count the number of people that told me they were "most definatly going to buy" whatever it was I was selling, never to hear from them again. My dad had a saying. "Untill it's in the boat, it's just a fish story". First come, first served.

Honestly, as a seller, I'd be inclined to blow you off a good bit also. Your message sounds almost identical to the "I'm from Africa and I'm going to buy your widget." After all, you haven't seen this tractor, you don't know anything about it, but you're saying you're going to buy it.

You also don't know about the other offers he's had. For all you know, he's had a dozen people at the door, and a hundred e-mails before receiving yours.

If I had a dollar for every person that said they were going to buy something of mine, and that they'd be over at such a and such a time, I'd be a rich man.

Sounds like this gentleman that you are speaking of is a man of his word. Maybe you should try to do the same. From your message it looks like you made the error in typing an incorrect phone number. Looks like another potential buyer beat you to the punch, so to say.

My advice to you would be grow up and be a man about it. At least there are a few individuals who are true to their word. I am thankful!

Your quick response to his add (along with others)may have told him he could get more than he was asking. watch the ads and see if it pops up later

I suppose another take on this would be that if this is how the fella handles his business affairs , how would you guess he might have looked after this tractor? I'm willing to venture that his maintenance affairs were handled with similar grace.

Anyone that has ever sold anything should know, the man there with cash first takes the goods. This guy sounds like a moron. You probably don't want to deal with such a guy anyway. There is another tractor around every corner. You will find the one for you.

Fella sounds a bit ditsy. You may have wasted your time and your money. You will find another tractor to your suiting, that fella will never find another brain though. S.W.
