It isn't an antique till it is older than I am. The tractors I am showing are both older than I am....both 1938 models. and my mill is from 1915.

ya, I know. One of them even has electric start. Don't they think I'm enough of a man to turn a crank.

Ive heard them say on RFDTV that up to 1939 is "antique" and 1940 to 1960 is a "classic". Who knows??

I wonder if that was the same 5, 10, or 15 years ago? Seems like the year would change, for example in 1999 a 1939 tractor would be 60 years old, but in 2003 a 1943 tractor would be 60 years old. I have heard the same thing on RFDTV but didn't know what year the show was made or maybe somebody just made up those years and they don't change.

We have a 1949 JD B, recently restored, that belonged to wife's late uncle. Tractor is same age as wife. Keep referring to tractor as antique. Wife DOESN'T think so! So must be it isn't really antique!

Our local ag-expo,held in February every year, says-"Any tractor made before 1960"- I don't know who came up with this but if you want to display your tractor in the antique tractor section,it has to meet the above criteria.-mike-nm

I believe the John Deere collectors made that distinction because that is the last year 2 cylinders were made.

A true antique must be at least 100 years old, that means that very few of our antique tractors are true antiques, rather, they are classics. I do not know the age at which something is considered a classic.

maybe for furniture or whatever 100 years applies, but not for everything, show me a 100 year old antique car? not many around, usualy with cars they figure around 25 years is an antique. with tractors i always considered it more around 40 or 50 years, but thats debatable too.

Here is a car that I've owned for 18 years. Never thought of it as an antique! It is 31 years old :)

I took this pic on the 4th of July to send/show to my brother (he lives out East)that the corn in my part of the country is well over knee high! :-)
