Is there a place where you can buy thermostats directly based on dimensions and opening temperature rather than engine or tractor model number? I have had some luck in using automobile (GM) thermostats in place of the originals where the dimensions are close or the same but in cases where the original thermostat is not close to the GM dimensions all you can get from the dealer is another like the original with a lower opening temperature, usually 160 deg. 180 deg. or a little higher is probably better than 160.

Not sure if you can in this day in time. I can remember when there used to be real parts men in the parts stores, and you could go in and get what you wanted. Now days if you dont have a year and model number, They cant find Sh**.

It'd obvious you don't have a small independant parts store like the one I work for one. We get people sent down to us from Advance & autozone or the dealers/garages all the time. I agree though, you go to the discount stores & they're all idiots!
