I listed a tractor today in the photo ads, got a man wanting more pics of this tractor almost immediately, sent him the pics, he said the price was fine, so far, so good. Then he sends me this email, so are the scammers getting smarter ? Looks to me like they have wised up a little ? See below.

Hi John,
Thanks for getting back to me. I like the tractor and i am going to make payment asap. I am going to send you a cashier check or money order for the sum of $7000. I know this is more than the stated amount, but i will need you to use the balance to look for a shipper that will be ready to ship to Bolivia. I am doing this because of the strict law involve in shipping in my country. If this is ok with you, i will need you to send me your name, addresss and phone number asap. so that payment can be process as early as possible. Please get back to me soon Claude

Sounds like the same fellow that sent me a "cashiers check" for over $7000. I still have it--a bogus piece of paper. I purposely led him along, acting dumb--once I got his check he wen't WACKO trying to get me to wire him the balance. Had quite a bit of fun with him. Anyone that gets that quick response from someone out of the country and willing to pay asking price--that's a big red flag.

you can always do as I did and tell them that as soon as the check clears the bank you will send the cash to wherever. then you go to the bank and have them send the check for collection prior to depositing and if it is no good (as was in my case)it opens a big can of worms and gets people in government involved. you can e-mail me and I can give you specifics...just trying to pass the word that if the govt gets involved we may be able to stop this...

Tell them you have someone handling the transaction for you and for them to sent everything to these people then copy the address and phone for your local fbi.

This one is no newer nor wiser than any of the previous scams. When someone asks you to help them circumvent the laws or tariffs of their country, YOU KNOW IT'S A SCAM. Barnum said, "There's a sucker born every minute." His wife said, "Yes, and two scammers born every second!"

A little bit off of this topic, but does a person to have to clear such an export with the Department of State or some other department?

Export license, etc. needed???

Agriculture equipment is exempt from a lot of the import and export laws that apply to other goods being shipped in or out of the U.S. This includes taxes and tariffs. That is why the scammers target tractors, and why we must be vigillant. Once money goes overseas, there is little to no recourse. They don't want your tractor, they want your money. Never send the difference between the price of the item and the check, and make sure the check clears the bank before shipping any mdse. Its just good business. Also report the scammer to E Bay, or whomever else who acts as a medium for any transaction. Also report scammers to the FTC.

It sure sounds an awful lot like the Nigerian Scam. My bet is that the other shoe will drop once you've received the check; there will probably be a change of plans and the "buyer" will decide they need a refund instead of paying you to arrange the shipping.

I'd tell him politely that you don't work that way.

Thanks Mark, but I have already told him I do not do checks of any kind, and deleted his email, but, if he sends me GOOD U.S. American Cash, he will own it!!!

I received an offer like this from Eastern Europe on a tractor I had for sale on Ebay. I told them ok, but that the "cashiers check" would be held TWO YEARS for clearance (before shipping) and that there would be ABSOLUTELY no REFUNDS for ANY REASON.

I know, but I figured it was a scam. Never heard from them again.
