Maybe the high bidder is from Nigeria and want to send the seller a cashiers check for 50,000 :)

The guy selling the tractor only lives about 30 miles from me. I don't know him but I look him up in the phone book when it said corning NY. That has to be a mistake like the decimal is in the wrong place.

Yea Its not like Ebay where you go up by increments till you reach your max bid.
It bids what ever amount you type in.
I know I have over paid for a couple of items. By typing in my max and that was the next bid.
Sure I could have gotten for less. Oh well.

I went to a "live" auction saturday. (You remember, the kind that you stand in the rain all day, and talk to everyone you know) They were selling a load of old steel I beams. 2 guys were bidding, They got it to $260, in $5 increments. The eventual buyer must have got tired of bidding. All of the sudden, he says $500. Next word I heard was SOLD!!!! I'd still bet the $29000+ bid on the 5000 Dorf was a mistake! (Or he wanted it REAL BAD)

I was at one of those "stand in the rain" auctions a couple of years ago. There was a pair of new tires on new rims with Ford centers, *exactly* the right combo for my Ford 850. I was still too much of a tractor greenhorn to even know what they might be worth, so I was thinking "hmm, I wonder if I could get those for $300 or so?". When they came up, the auctioneer didn't even have time to ask for a starting bid before some guy says "heck, I'll give $500 for those". No other bids. Sold.
