Somebody please tell me there is a place where it isn't muddy! Went out to check the cows tonight and was short one. Took the truck (4x4) instead of the ATV. Found her (and she and baby were fine) but couldnt get back to the barn (and I was on top of a hill), frame was on the ground and I was on 'good sod', got to walk (read slop) for almost a mile throught the mud to get the tractor and pull myself out, plus had to feed my first roll of hay tonight.

Hi, Kyhayman. Would you please send some of that mud - and the weather that created it - DownUnder to South-east Queensland or indeed almost any part of Australia, except the grain-growing areas at the moment.

The deepest mud I've seen in 2 1/2 years was about ONE foot -- in a dam I cleaned out recently.
We have been in drought for almost 3 years now.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Almost frozen solid here now, except for a few spots. Had to freeze so we could finish combining corn, luckily it's frozen enough that we only buried the combine once today. 150 acres left to disc in the spring I guess.

Here in central Florida it is dry enough that I can get the tractor down in the wet spots to clean out the ditches. Last year was a WET winter and only had a couple of weeks where the surface water table dropped a foot or two.

Sorry to hear about the mud and COLD.

What is mud? I have a childhood memory of it--comes from mixing rain and dirt I believe. And if I remember right, rain is fixture of Mother Nature but I could be wrong 'cause I ain't seen none in a while. There has been some within the countryside but my place is cursed. In fact in the days of Noah's Ark when it rained for 40 days and 40 nights my place recorded just 40 hundreths.

Rained all day yesterday here in southern Ohio (Greenfield area, highland county). We've had our share of it since summer. Weathermans calling for some desertion dust for tomorrow...be a welcome change. Fred OH

Like others have said, mud would be appreciated in certain parts of the country. Western Kansas would ship you some dry soil for wet I expect.

Hm, maybe we could use all of the unemployed and welfare recipients to form a bucket brigade to transfer some moisture. Two lines--one for buckets full of water, and one for empties going back for more. Hm, now where did I put that empty bucket?
Maybe sponges would work.

DON'T HEAD NORTH!

It was quite muddy here in my part on Ontario Canada up till the begining of this week. NOW IT'S FROZEN.

Just startin to get some frost in the ground to stiffen things up. Still not enough to do anything though, just enough frost to walk on but vehicles cut right through. No real snow to speak of so the ground should continue to freeze.

Felt like it rained straight from Sept to Dec. Just hope it got all the percipitating out of it's system so that we don't get much snow.

I hear you loud and clear. Hasn't stopped raining since the start of moose season in mid Sept. Drowned it and the deer hunt too. Area here in Bruce County is about foot of top soil, two feet of brown clay, then 90 feet of shale/limestone hard impervious blue clay. Ponds of water are now seen on even the smallest of depressions, even on hill tops. The top 2-3 feet of soil is 100% saturated and running off where it can. Water will never make it's way down through the blue clay. Tried to bring in equipment heavy enough to dig deep enough through to bury water lines to the shed since Sept. And a drainage line from the deck/pond area of the house. Previous dumb *ss owners tried to run water uphill to an old drain, typical of most of their workmanship. The BobCat 322 tracked excavator could only dig virgin ground three feet deep. Did use it to keep cleaning out cave ins. Rolled the poor wee thing into the trench once too as the soil mushed out. The 4WD backhoe tractor needed a long chain and another tractor as an anchor to pull it's self out twice. Finally finished the job with a floatation tracked Case 9020B excavator last week.

Now listen you guys,

I can certainly understand your delima and frustration 'cause I used to milk the dreaded cows. There's nothing worse than trying to run a dairy in the mud.

But, ya gotta think of all that moisture as free money falling from the sky!! :>)

Once I was complaining about the wet and muddy conditions on an excavating job we were doing, in a not so gentlemanly way. One of my older, trusted operators said "there is no such thing bad dirt in our business, that's how we make our living!" He's the same operator, that when I complemnted him for finishing a road bed with a 1:2 embankment with just an old Cat 12F, He said"the trouble with not knowing what yer doin, is that you never know when yer done!, and I'm done!!) Hope some south wind and sunshine comes your way. Larry

I left Montana 25 years ago and headed south until someone said " what the heck are you wearing on your feet". If they didn't know what a pair of overshoes were I figured I would stay. Although some wish I would Leave.

November was offically the wetest November on record here. I think we had about 7 inches last month. Coming very close to the record for the year. We must be somewhere around 45 inches so far this year. I've never seen it so wet!

Forgot to add, I was fencing along a field of winter wheat. The wheat is failed and the dirt was blowing out of the field and had a drift all along in the failed cane next to it. One the south end where the dirt drifted trrough the fence it was about 2 feet deep and this is only December. Gonna be a mess by the time it blows all winter and it was blowing today. Too bad when some guys hog all the rain.

North Central Minnesota. Frozen pretty good, got 13in of snow last week, although it has settled some, and forecasted for 1-2 in tonight. It's been dry here since July. Ran out of pasture quite early. I've been feeding hay since the 2nd week of August. 175 round bales so far. I feed 3 a day. One thing I've got going for me is there is no mud!

Better days are just around the corner. It'll be frozen solid in a few weeks. Then next summer, that same muddy ground will get drier than gunpowder. Have a good one, John
