body work vs. new sheet metal

I just got my first tractor, 1942 farmall A $ 100.00. It has been sitting 3 years but should be an easy fix. The body panels have some rot. Any opinions on body work vs. new panels. The hard part would be the grill, or $850.00 for new metal. I don't need an original type restoration but for it to be respectable, and just for work. It would probably be about an equal exchange my time or my money. Any thoughts?

I'd buy a can of bondo and take my time doing a nice job sanding it smooth, you can make rust holes and dents disapear. good luck!

I see nothing wrong with welding in new metal to save old panels. Even if the weld is still somewhat visible. A grill is harder to fix if rusted, maybe a new, new used, or reproduction. Tractor sheet metal is often not made up of compound bends and is easier to repair with pieces you make and weld in.
