Just wanted to say a quick thanks to those who responded to my query about the oil on my JD R's hood. I've only recently become acquainted with diesels on the farm so I hadn't even entertained the idea that the oil could have been a biproduct of the tractor running at idle for an extended period of time. Turns out that this was the case. A little time at full throttle and the R was chuggin with no more exhaust stack slobbering. I appreciate the replies. I'm very greatful to not have to replace the rings. Learn somethin new everyday I guess. God bless.

I didn't offer any assistance to the first post.

But wanted to say thankyou for the memories.

As I saw the "R", I immediately heard that little pony sing away followed by the pumph pumph as the big guy fired up. The slight bouncing of the front end at idle always impressed me as youngster.

Thanks for the follow up. I also wondered how that turned out.
