Hi All,

I've been screamin' to high heaven about the screechy right brake on my old H and folks have been telling me that it is normal....that these old tractors all have noisy brakes.

Well, I wasn't buying that story; ‘cause I’ve rode too many of these old gals over the years.

Anyway, the day before yesterday, I was using the tractor hard for quite awhile and the noise has now gone away. Quiet as a mouse and brakes as it should.

Before I bought it, the tractor had set in storage in a shed for 10 years after it was restored. Do you 'spose I just had a bad case of "lot rot"?

Allan

I can still recall the screechy sound of the brakes on the ole farmall M our neighbor (my one room school teacher, also) had. He lived over half mile away and when he'd fire up the ole straight piped M and go about the farm yard and need to use a brake you could hear it easily above the roar and snapping of the ole girl. I'd say some of them were born with that noisey brake.
Oh, the beautiful sounds of days long gone by.

A mild case of lot rot is yard rash.

Allen,
Lot rot is real, it hurts them more to sit than to work. I have three old farmalls myself and dont always have enough work for them and they sit. Thinking of getting another, go figure.

Hi Van,

That's what I was thinking. Also, I originally had a very slow antifreeze drip that I think was coming from the water pump packing.

It too, seems to be drying up....crossed fingers and all that. :>)

Thanks for the response,

Allan
