Gee, I seem to have it easy compared to a few others...

Been with my wife for 16 years now. I'm the main breadwinner, though she does contribute with a steady part-time job. She also knows I have a high-stress job and work hard... and she couldn't care less what I spend on tools, tractors or my other interests.

I'm reasonable about my spending (really!), don't attempt to hide things from her, and about all she says is "that's nice dear". Packages arrive at the door with parts, a new piece of iron shows up in the barn, she never lets on that she notices, doesn't asks questions, and I don't really think she cares.

Nor does she "extract" anything in return. In fact, if I sell something, she insists I keep the money for investing in my other projects!

That was pretty easy for me. I just showed her how to operate my JD "A". Now, when I tell her it needs this or that, it doesn't bother her as much.

GUYS don't get me wrong i HAVE A GOOD WOMAN I just figured I'd ask how others did with buying toys. I only have 10 right now but in a few years I will have more she loves the horses and I like my machines. And today she saw a couple tractors on the side of the road and gave me a hard time about them because a big rig got in the way of seeing them oh well I now know where they are at

I`m married to my second wife now for 11 years. I didn`t know it at the time, but the toy problem would never happen. If I bring a truck load of old iron home, she is right there to help unload it. She asks for nothing in return. There has never even been a raised voice between us on any subject. You see, I married a "traditional" Asian girl who had been my penpal for 4 years prior to our marriage. I try and make sure she has everything she needs and try to sneak in a few extras from time to time without her thinking that I am spoiling her. I have come to believe that the majority of American women could already speak 2 words on the day they were born---GIVE ME!! Don`t get me wrong, there are a few good ones out there, and it looks like a few of you guys found them.

After 42 yrs, with one 2.5 yr break with a sweetie, I've determined that women in general have a brain mass consisting of ONE driving molacule, ONE reasoning molacule and the rest is emotions and air!!!
So I'll reiterate what I've said before; it's ALWAYS easier to be forgiven than it is to get permission! So, if you 've got the bug in your shorts and a buy comes along..... ..it might take a week or two for the stink to blow away, but it will. Take it from ol' unkel Lar

I get my toys, the fiance' gets hers too. Of course the loan for her vehicle is in my name, I make the payments, and I fix it for her. But she buys the groceries, pays the rent, and keeps me entertained.

It's all give and take, both sides have to be willing to compromise once in a while...

my thoughts are always keep a girlfriend on the side ( you will need one sooner or later). Seems like if you have the girlfriend you get along good with the wife.

Not Hen-pecked,pussy-whipped or tied to the apron strings .Things are give and take.I don't go to extremes and don't expect to have to beg to be able to buy a (investment in History) as long as it's green(LOL)

I know what you gentalmen mean. My last wife was very demanding if I ever bought anything. Thankfully that is all done with know. My present wife is a very understanding woman. She allows me to by what I want when money allows. I think the lord I found a good woman. But of course because my last wife was so demanding she still haunts me cause now Im broke...LOL

Well, when I purchased a JD 720, the wife instantly claimed our old Ford 8N as "hers". Then she wanted it painted and fixed up. So now "we" have a JD 720 that needs many things and a 8N that needs virtually nothing.

She's happy, i'm happy, but I don't know what it will take when I want to buy my next toy. . .

My X gripped everytime I spent money ; but it was ok if she spent . She gave me the altimatum everytime I wanted to buy something in 33 yrs of marriage . I lost out on a great buy when my dad sold his Ford 601 Workmaster plus all his farm equipment because of the altimatum deal .My dad always said I let her control me too much ; I know now that he was right . She eventually left me anyhow 3 months after our 33rd anniversary . Now I wish I would've done what I wanted to back years ago & let her leave back then . It would've been cheaper for me then .Don't ever think that when they walk out it'll be a cheap exit . Watch your money & your back is my advise . They'll rip your heart out & not even flinch .I lost any retirement funds & savings I had set back for my Golden years . What a reward for devotion & hard work .Good luck , but it doesn't sound good .

my X left me 11 years ago last halloween after nearly 18 years of marriage. Took her half out of the middel. One thing I tell friends going thru divorce. Have a farm sale let her get 5000 for her half of a 18000 tractor that just brings 10,000 on the sale. But no I paid her 9000 for her half and then 1 year later I sell it to buy a better one and get 10,000. WOMEN us men can not live without them or WITH THEM

My brother just went through the big "D" and his wife took the 8N. Made him pay for her 1/2 share of the rest of the tractors and equipment also.

Well just today I bought a 49 JD 'B'. I don't have a wife but the fiancee will be looking for another diamond (ring or other) i'm sure. Sometimes it pays to be nice.

Just the opposite here. Wife wants a cat we would have to keep inside. If she gets the cat shouldnt I be able to go out and buy an old tractor?
