You turn off the heat to conserve energy when your mother n law comes to visit during a blizzard.- You use your mother n law to hold the front of your tractor down while trying to pull a stump out of the ground.- You go to the dumpster and bring back more than you take. You install a rumble seat on your disc harrow for your mother n law to sit in to apply down pressure. You go down the street and repair a girls plumbing and your wife has been trying to get you to fix a leak for days. goofus

... If you go to a wedding and there are more pickups than cars.

... If your pickup has more draperies than your house.

... If you've had more dogs than girlfriends.

You might be a redneck if you've ever used a gun cleaning patch and duct tape to make a band aid.
You might be a redneck if your wedding reception was held at a roadside park.

Come on guys keep 'em coming, and ignore the old grouches

Gee Goofus, you caught a lot of heat for nothing.

I've self-proclaimed myself to be a redneck for several years. Here is why:

Yea, I may have the occasional tractor occupying my garage. Tractor value: $800 Car value baking in the sun: $30,000.

I also may stop towards the end of a day and bullsh#t with my neighbor. It's been a tough week, I have more to do, but I always have time for some good BS. As an added bonus, as I kick back on his porch, I see a gopher... It's a ways out, but eventually, if we don't get it, another beverage will make us forget it our missed shots. Oh, an adult beverage or six may be involved too.

Yea, I tease my mother-in-law. I give her the treatment, sorta. I love her and would do anything for her. She knows it. She appreciates my banter and shoves it back at me. Strike against me?

I'm not exactly frugal. When my buddies and I step up to the bar, we don't worry about where the next round is coming from. If my friend forgets his wallet, guess what? I'm buying! Yea, well, not economically correct, but someday, I'll forget mine. Not on purpose, mind you, but what comes around goes around. It all works out in the long run. Yea, I know, it don't work on Wall Street. Guess What??? Neither do I!!!

thurlow said that a redneck will throw the beer on the side of the road, and a good ole boy will throw it in the box. Well, I always try for the box. Generally, early in the night, it makes it. Later on, it may not. I contribute that to the slowing speed of the driver. However, if we stop to relieve the beer, I may pick up the redneck's (in front of me) empty beer.

Yea, I know my neighbors. I know their kids. He!!, they may all even all be cousins? Who knows? Well, actually, I do know. My redneck kids are probably related to your non-redneck kids.

But if being a redneck is a guy with 3 Chevy's up on blocks in the front yard - no, I'm not.

If being a redneck is knowing your neighbors (rather than being scared of them), helping your friends (without fear of when you will be helped back) and loving your family (and all of the silly things they bring with them), then I, sir, am a redneck.

No, I'm not a Nascar fan. I don't watch football (except for the Super Bowl). I'm not a sports guy period. The sports I like most haven't heard of. But I'm a redneck.

I like the outdoor BBQs with a cool one or 8. I like kids running wild. I like big back-yard fires. I like fixing on old junk that means nothing to anyone but me. I like lighting fireworks everyday except the 4th (seems so mundane). I like having a reason for Friday besides a paycheck. I like having people call me nuts once in a while. And I like having people call me for a favor once in a while without having to worry about how I'm going to pay them back.

And, in case I didn't say it before, I'm a redneck and I'm very proud of it.

All of this talk about rednecks reminds me of that old indian proverb: "Frog that looks into the northern sky has a toothless muskrat nibbling at it's knee"
My two cents about the whole topic and the responses.

Ya know, one of the signs of a redneck is all the parked cars in the front yard. I would tend to think that all the parked tractors would suffice in a pinch to put the same label on someone.

So now we have an authentic "tractor" topic.

Please you guys, lighten up a bit. Life is way to short to take a serious tone each minute of the hour.

I too say thanks, the chuckle was greatly appreciated.

Aloha,

What is a "red neck" anyway? Here in Hawaii we have a lot of sun so we have a lot of red necks. I would think that people who post "OT" subjects on this site is because of all the knowledgeable people who can answer their questions so you all should be proud.

Mahalo,
Howard

Howard, not a lot of difference between rednecks and good ole boys.....I've heard it put like this: a redneck is a fellow who rides around in his pickup; may have a few bumper stickers, definitively has a gun rack in the rear window with at least one gun in it; may be alone or with a friend or two; as he empties his beer, he throws the can out on the side of the road. A good ole boy is a fellow who rides around in his pickup; may have a few bumper stickers, definitively has a gun rack in the rear window with at least one gun in it; may be alone or with a friend or two; as he empties his beer, he throws the can into the truck bed. Most (not all) of the guys (including myself) below the Mason-Dixon line fall into one or both categories

It is better that he throws his can out the window then the beer bottle. The bottle is worth more and that bottle could cut his neighbors tractor tire and cost him hundreds of dollars as what happened to me several years ago.

I have to agree, if you don't want to read a post, then skip it. Have you ever noticed that 90% of the time when somebody makes an OT post and get slammed for it the slams usually come from people who either don't use the name they usually do on here or are the ones that "frequent" this site but from whom you never see any input in the way of either questions or answers, except for the occasional slam? This site is about people with a common interests and backgrounds being able to communicate and fellowship. If EVERY post was nothing but Off topic things like jokes, then I agree it would be a little much. As far as the questions about somebodys minivan, etc, the 'Tractor' forum is as close to a general mechanical information forum as there is on here, and I'd say is probably frequented by the most people. So where do you propose them to post and get the kind of experience and info behind an answer as they can get right here. Just remember the saying "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" Well in my opinion the same goes for this site and the message boards. If every post was always 'on topic' then this would be one of the dullest places on the web, everybody writing in sharing their problems and woes with never an ounce of laughter. I like reading all the problem/information type posts and helping out when I can, and I also like a good laugh once in a while. So to Goofus I say thanks for the laughs, and don't worry about all the negative comments, you just can't make some people happy no matter what you do..... ....Just my .02

I enjoy this site. Sometimes people post O T items. If I am interested, I will read them, if not, I just skip over them. We have so much hatred in this world, it's a shame to continue to degrade and complaign about others posts. Like I say, if your not interested in the topic, skip it and don't read it. That's far better for all of us than getting high blood pressure from what someone else posts. Just my .02 worth. Bob D. (La)

Y'know, maybe there's a solution that'll work out for everyone...why don't they just add a "coffee shop" forum here? Now, before you dismiss the idea, think about it...the folks who wanna talk about the weather, or sports, or tell jokes, or whatever, could still do it on this site, but it wouldn't interfere with the dissemination and discussion of tractor information on the other forums...and moderators could direct off-topic discussions to the "coffee shop"...

I think it MIGHT work...what do YOU think?
