It is time to get rid of the old 8n an get a little new tractor. I'd like to get one with the peddle you push down to lock in both rear wheels. Also would like power steering, still want a gas motor, and wide front end. I'll have maybe about $3,500 to $4,000 to spend.I have a Ford tractor dealer pretty close so I wouldn't mind sticking with Ford but I would go with others if price and tractor is right. So could anybody give me some ideas on tractor models that might fit that discription? Thanks

Buy a 4310 JD with the hydrostat trans and have something. Will even take a backhoe, loader, belly mower. With MFWD it will pull too and not tear up the dirt.

The Ford thousand series 3 cylinders ( 2000, 3000, 4000 ) started in 65 and had differential lock as an option. Since it was an option you have to check each tractor. It is a pedal by your right heel. Some tractors have dif. lock but pedal is broken off and not working. A lot of sellers don't know what you are talking about if you ask about differential locks. Be careful.

Watch at the auctions for the 2000 series Fords. They tend to go fairly low in price. They were the smallest of the next generation of the 600 series tractors. They are bigger, but they aren't huge.

Personally I'd go with a MF35, 135 or MF65 or 165.
I have a 65 and it's a great tractor, I'm not sure what years things were offered. My model 65 has the locking diff, dual stage clutch ect. $ 4000. is a little low but I see them out there lower all the time. I've never heard a bad word said about those tractors. Good luck.
