I'm using Olympus cameras (SmartMedia card) and software downloading via USB port on an Imac slot-loader with 256mb of RAM and it's lightning fast even though the machine is 4 years old and the USB is first generation.

The others' advice is right on - a card reader is the way to go. With the reader you take the memory card out of the camera and stick it in the reader. The card then looks just like another hard drive on your computer. You simply click and drag to download photo files. Download time depends number/size of the images and the speed of the connection, but it's typically a matter of a few seconds for an entire card full.

A memory card reader can be purchased for about $20. Make sure you get the right one for your camera's card type - I think your Polaroid uses Smart Media. Also the reader must have the right port connection for your computer, either USB or serial (serial if your computer is older and doesn't have a USB port).

Does your camera plug into the serial port by any chance? If so, it's going to dog-slow. Most cameras now use USB; much faster.

I agree with Scott. Get a memory card reader.

Yes his would have the serial post connector. I have a Polaroid PDC640. That port is just a hair faster than a old dial up modem.
If yours had Memory Cards ( not all the PDC's had that some had internal memeory) You can buy a card reader and speed the prosces up quite a bit.

Hi Dick , I'm no computor wiz. I had the same problem you have. Very slow. A friend of mine said to buy a card reader , which would be connected to the computor. Well , I went a step further. My printer needed replacing. So I bought a new HP printer with built in card reader. It use to take me , sometimes 45 minutes or so , to up-load pictures from my camera to the computor. With the card reader , it takes around one or two seconds. The card reader also does not wear on camera batteries. Card readers by them selves are very cheap in price. Make shure you get the propper format

Hi Dick,

I'm really not familiar with your camera but usually the speed in which the pictures come into the computer is related to how much ram the computer has.

Just a guess,

Allan
