How do the after market break pads hold up? I need to replace the pads on my JD. I see after market pads are about 1/2 the price, from Value Bilt tractor parts. Thanks Stan

I'd go with the Valu Bilt brakes.

If it's a resto job, no way you are ever going to do another brake job on the tractor. If it's an everyday use, you still probably won't do a brake job in your lifetime. Have a 60 w/loader and a 70 that does odd jobs regularly around the 600 acre farm. Can't remember when the last time either one had a reline job. I've been on the farm for 40 years.

Now if you drive with both feet on the brake pedals "just in case", then neither set will last.

As far a comparing to vehicle brakes, stopping @ a couple MPH a few times a day vs stopping @ 60 MPH is a big big differance.

I wasn't comparing them in terms of what they're stopping. I was stating that just because a part is cheaper, doesn't necessarily mean it's a better deal. Will-fit parts are fine for some applications, and I wouldn't touch them in others. When it comes to safety items like brakes, I get the best I can afford.

Then you best head down to the JD dealership and buy a set then. Your check book not mine.

Marlowe kind of has a point, but you'll probably have to try them to see how long they last. They COULD be made by the same company that makes Deere's, but that doesn't mean they're the same quality. What kind of warranty you get also affects the overall value of the part, just as much as price. I've seen guys put parts store brake pads on their pickups that were half the price of OEM pads, and lasted a third as long. Not too good of a deal in my opinion.

g man, you neglected to say that the replacement pads were probably not oe quality..most vehicle owners have up to 4 choices of pads at our store....from the 17.00 cheapies(i'm gonna sell it in 6 months),"super stops" for 30.oo," ae" series for 55.00 or so and the top of the line ceramics which sell for 95.00 and up...the ae and the ceramics have a lifetime warranty..

Yeah, and the bad part is if there is brake wear, the crud winds up in the transmission and hydraulic system!

i sure hope you don't think that DEERE makes the pads they sell?the after market pads are maybe the same pads DEERE sells with out the nice little green box and half the price. and as to lasting well they have to be as good or better then oem and might be better because of newer and better lineing materail
