I'm collecting stories of dealerships around the nation and world. If you have a story or any information to share on the history of ANY tractor/farm equipment dealer (even if just dates of operation and product lines sold), I'd love to hear from you: mmregistry@yahoo.com

Respectfully,

Brian Rukes

Brian
I can remember when the county I live in had 2 JD dealerships, 2 IH, 2 AC, 2 Oliver, and one each of Case, Ford, MM, And Massey. Now there is one dealer in the county---AGCO.

Pretty much the same in this area. However, Smith Mills Implement, Smith Mills, MN has been around forever. Started out with Allis and Oliver. Also an AGCO dealer now. I'm 55 and they were there before me. The other was Priebe Implement Co. (John Deere) in Waseca, MN. Although sold to a large corporation a few years ago, it is still one of the few survivors. I remember the huge full-size Neon Ford tractor sign at Pierce Tractor Co. in Spartanburg, SC.
It was on top of the building. the neon tubes were made so it appeared the rear wheels turned, & a bottom plow moved up & down. It was a quite a sight to see !!!I have heard that it won some awards for advertising signs. I think it was taken down in the late 60's. A friend inquired as to where sign went, they think it must have been hauled to a dump..... I sure would love to have it now. Pierce Tractor later became Jones Tractor. A few years ago, it was sold To Blanchard , they sell Cat Compact equipment there , but still have the New Holland line of tractors.

My first memory of a tractor dealership is at Ash Grove, Mo. Rozell's Imp Co. I am 62 now and I was very young I don't know when it was started, Mr. Rozell had a Chysler Dealership first then went across the st. and put in IHC He died when I was still very young, but his widow ran it for many years. I dated her daughter some, and worked there for a week onced. I came back to the farm in 1971, so I would say it closed up about 1973 or 74. They added New Holland some time in the 60's. She sold the Chysler Agency and it closed a few years later, when it did She moved the tractor Agency into that building for its last few years
