Belarus 250 won't start

The tractor is a two cylinder diesel. In the past I have been using the decompression lever to help it to start. I would open the decompression lever, start spinning the engine and then close the decompression lever. The engine will start usually in two attempts. Until now. The tractor has been sitting for about 4 months. I can get the engine to spin but when I close the decompression level it stops dead in its tracks. I replace all the fuel filters, replaced the fuel, bled the fuel system and still having problems. I am thinking it is the starter that is giving me problems. Any help will be appreciated.

Herring choker is correct .Belarus 250,s were notorius for a bad conection where the ground switch mounts.Remove the switch from the firewall and wire brush the area and reinstall and you will see a difference.

My 250 started hard (had to use the decompressor) for 20 years. I thought that was normal. Then last spring, after sitting over the winter, it did exactly what yours did. I checked the voltage drop on the starter circuit... the culprit was the master switch on the firewall by your left foot. I replaced it with one of those green master switches on the battery terminal, AND I HAVEN'T HAD TO USE THE DECOMPRESSOR SINCE! I wish I'd replaced the master switch 20 years ago.

I would start with the batterys. Do you have the 2 -- 6 volts or have you replaced it with a 12 volt. If replacing batterys pay attention to the cranking amps of the battery.

I'd be looking at the battery, battery cables and ends, and then the starter, in that order!!!

It's either low voltage to the starter, or a weak starter. At least that's my best guess.

I found by easing in the decompression lever[420A model] it would attempt to start/warm up with the lower compression and then fully close the lever, while it was rolling. If your batteries are weak and the full compression lever is closed it will stop rolling at once,Does it start with a jump from another vechicle? After that maybe the starter is needing attention, after sitting a while there might be dampness/etc creating a high rersistence circuit in the starter it self[worn brushes/dirty comm????
good luck
