Does anyone out there send any alternative fuels into there deisel tanks, rather then standard fuel? Do you plow with french fry or coal oil? I've tried clean light used oil, on warm days, once the old girl is hot, seemed to power her the same. Just wondering.

Hello, I run a fuels and lubes testing lab. We see a lot of biodiesel fuels. Cranola oil is used heavily and has a cetane rating of around 50. The biggest problem with the Bio Fuels is that they lack oxidation stability. They are okay to use , but unless treated with a stability agent, they tend to oxidize quickly in a tank. This then results in the creation of heavy byproducts that don't flow well in the fuel system. One way around it is to blend it with ethanol to decrease the viscosity though. Bio lubes are well establihed also. For what it is worth.

Say Hound,
Have you ever tested Royal Purple oils in your lab? I worked for a premier (German) air compressor manufacturer who had their oil blended by Royal Purple. These are rotary screw compressors rated for 24/7 operation; 3-500hp electric units. These oils are gaining acceptance quite rapidly with RP expanding their product line greatly.
I run RP in my Ford pickup 12-15,000 miles between oil changes while using K&N oil filters at 7-8,000 mile intervals. A K&N air filter is also used. This unit has 130,ooo miles on it and the only part replaced was a frayed serpentine belt; since new. Royal Purple fluids are in my manual trans, rear differential and power steering as well. When this truck has not had a 500# air compressor in the bed, it has been pulling a single axle trailer with a 2000# demo compressor for my sales demonstrations. Total logged miles with trailer is over 65,000 miles. Tim

I use bio diesel in the summer only. Switch to winter blend the other times. Injector pumps and nozzels are way too expensive for me to try and save a few cents when running a $90,000 tractor.
