just sold a load of 500-600 lb calves at bluegrass stockyards in lexington KY. The prices right now for the seller are almost unbelievable. The steers averaged 1.04 a lb and the heifers .99. I saw a lot of lighter cattle 300lb at 1.30 WOW!!!!

Prices are up here in TX too. I sold a few two weeks ago, 390-590 brought 1.20 to .92 a lb. I wish I had a tractor trailer full to sell now. Maybe I could stop eating bologna and afford myself a nice steak.

Demand for beef is higher than ever and the cow herd is down. Like one of the other guys said he sold his entire cow herd due to drought.
As long as the stocks remain low and mad cow disease stays out of the country, the price will continue to be high.
Beef! Its whats for dinner.

Friends are in the hay business here in NE Co. Can't hardly give it away. Luck to get dollar a bale (small square) for sweet sudan. All my range cow friends sold the herds a year ago from drough (SP?)

Younger brother couldn't hardly sell his hay last year so last fall he bought cattle to feed out in the stock field. The prices quoted sound similar to what he paid then in NE Kansas. The a CANADIAN cow comes down with Mad Cow and kills the fat cattle market. I thought they would be lower given the current embargoes on US Beef.

Now is the time to get back in. Then prices will be flat again in several years.
