What % of your emails are SPAM ?

I guess a lot of us get a lot of SPAM emails. I get a ton of Nigerian letters, drug advertising, health supplement stuff, viagra (how do they know I need it), and worst of all some pretty raunchy advertising for stuff I don't even want to mention here. I would guess that 75% of my emails are unsolicited junk. I just delete it but it is a bit annoying (and yes, I know you can get SPAM filters or whatever they are). What percent would you say you get as SPAM? Once more question where did the word SPAM come from, the meat product?

Probably less than 1% of my e mails are spam and the ones I do get are not usually offencive. I post mainly on the Farmall page and always disclose my E address. I probably post on YT as much as any other person. I think a lot of this problem has to do with your server. My opinion if your internet service is cheap you get just what you pay for. They either get their revenue from you the customer or from advertising. By the way I do send and recieve over 100 e mails per week.

I use yahoo. It is pretty good about filtering spam to a bulk box. I did my weekly check of my e-mail today and had 9 in my inbox and 4 of them were to tell me that my and kids taxes went through with e file. There was 60 in the bulk or spam box. Those numbers are about average for me 60 spam to 5 good per week.

The term SPAM for unsolicited commercial email comes from an old Monty Python's Flying Circus - a truly bizarre British comedy program from the 1970s - skit in which every food item in a restaurant has Spam - the meat product - with it. The computer geeks grabbed that and ran so that every unsolicited email and usenet post became SPAM. Since no one knows what usenet is anymore, it's now just for email.

There are days when 100% of my email is SPAM.

O.F. I put up a new filter and have cut mine to ZERO. I would post it but Kim might frown on it. It will not except a new address unless it is sent twice. I was getting a 100 a day before. email me and I`ll give you the facts.(I have no money in this product it just works) KJM

Yep, just about 99.99999 99999% And I also think most of it comes by way of AOL. I don't use it but the rest of the family does, what a PITA!!!
Between the Viagra and the truck purchase spam I'd be a real Macho fella if I picked up on any of it. I just put it all in the trash can and delete before going anywhere else.Oh well, life in the fast lane...

I'd say about 99.99999 99999 99999 9%, I used to get around 100 spams a day, and thats with trying to be careful with my addy, but latley I have been recieving around 60-80 a day, so I'm not exactly sure what happened there, but I'm thankful for it. I wonder how many people actually read that crap. I never do and I never have, nor would I even think of buying any products off them, because most of those are fraudulent anyways. Like Older Fella said, there are some very raunchy and discusting subject lines in some of those porn offers, and if I had a dollar for every stupid Viagra offer I recieved, I'd be living large. Refinancing offers, second morgages, blah blah blah, I'd love to see that no spam law passed.

You probably won't believe me but I have only had 2 0r 3 spams in the last 6 months. Not counting two virus that Norton caught. It is my firm belief that ISPs like AOL are your trouble. I am on several "boards", and use E-bay freely. Yes E-bay sends me an ad every week or two though. Find yourself a reputable ISP that protects your address. Most of my friends have the same problem you are having. One that uses a cheap netzero gets the fewest spams.

I agree that the ISP is the problem. When I check Properties of the SPAM which I recieve it all comes through Earthlink.

Probably 40% of my email is spam, but I use Netscape for my email, and it's filters catch all but 1 or 2 a day.

Once you post your email on a board or ad it seems to get spread around. There are email reapers out there. Some sites that you have to sign up to use sell your info, read the fine print, use "stealth" info if necessary. NEVER email back to remove your name, it confirms that your email is active. I never open email from addresses I don't know, too many viruses, delete and move on. Live and learn.

I get no spam at all. I also never enter any of the "Win a Free $100,000 Chrome Gizmo" things that pop up all over the place.

You should never respond to a "click here to remove from the mailing list". Before I retired, I dealt with the email that came as a respone to our email address that was at the bottom of every one of our ~15,000 web pages. We got a couple of spams/day. While I was on vacation, the guy who was filling in for me hit the "take me off the list button" on a few of those. Instantly the spam increased to 20/day.

Somewhat like the increase in junk snail-mail that happens when you let a magazine subscription lapse. Since you are no longer a customer, they really don't care if you get upset with them for selling your name.

if you hit that button, it lets them know that you are there

Thats why your spam will increase.

Generally they write a program to send SPAM to every possible email adress, some of them dont exist.

If you click remove from the list, they will know that your email adress actually exists, and will get paid by other companies to give them a bunch of emails that really exist.
