Just wondering if anyone knows of any other sites like this that might cater to the southwestern US? Not a lot of correspondance here from this region...

Collecting takes place where there is time and money. That's mostly the north eastern parts of North America. The average antique owner doesn't even have a computer or belong to a club. They are just trying to survive with a tinker fixed clunker. The average antique collector/restorer is usually a suburban or rural professional that is middle aged to near retirment making much more than the National Average income. Owns a computer, belongs to a club and grew up on a farm but didn't care for poverty and the lack of security. That's mostly west coast and north east Yankee territory.

Just how did you figure all of that out by yourself? Had to be a crystal ball 'cause most of the posts don't tell you where the poster is from or how much he's got in the bank. You got some statistical proof of what you just said?

Buickadeere, That sure is a wide brush you're using there. Where'd you get it? If I had one that wide, I could have had the barn painted in a fraction of the time it took.

I'll have to admit that statement was in the center of the bell curve and missed the declining numbers on both sides. It does represent a large percentage of situations. Followed by the farmer who bought dozens of antiques for scrap price in the 70's and has serious coin in a collection now. Depends too if we are talking number of collectors, number of antique tractors in the area, number of tractors per collection or value in $$$.

Buickadeere, I was beginning to appreciate your qualifying statement, as it explained the point you were trying to drive home, that is until I realized it put me smack dab in the middle of that poverty bracket.

JDDug and others,

I am in Southern Utah (high desert). I am working on my first tractor, an 8N. I have two in waiting and am looking at a '37 JD D to buy and work on. I have been on this site for a few months now and am learning so much from the pros who post answers to our questions. Thanks to all of you, both questioners' and answerers'

I think a lot of it is the fact this is not the general farming country like the midwest therefore there are a lot less tractors and equipment available. Population is a lot more scattered also-just plain not as many people collecting here. We do have some dedicated collectors tho and the shows in Arizona are getting better all the time. Jack

Thanks for the responses, neighbors! I am from NM too (Jim). It's only that since there aren't many posts, I was afraid I'm missing something somewhere! Not to discredit this site, I love it!

I've noticed Ebay will hit around the West once in a while - AZ,CO,OR,CA more often than YT does, so I'd hate to find I was missing out!

I have noticed myself that there doesn't seem to be very many from the southwest posting here, and I don't know why, we need input from everyone. You folks from the southwest just jump right in here, we need everybody. After all, an old tractor is an old tractor, whether it be located in Arizona or Manitoba, or even Australia.

JDDug, I've been wondering the same. I'm in N. Utah and am especially interested in JD 2-cyls. BTW, this is my first post on this site.

Prof,

I bleed green myself. I am the president of a fairly new club in SE NM, that has really taken off. I am a lifetime farmer, yet I have the fever pretty bad, with 8 JD's and one Oliver! It is true, farmers are usually too busy to be heavily involved in a "busman's holiday", but I enjoy hauling to shows and being around the fine people that comprise them. The one fella is right, your typical club member is liable to be a city dweller as anything...but one thing for sure, you won't find a finer "salt of the earth" individual than an antique tractor nut.
