i'm trying to find a tractor in the 60 hp. range maybe early 80's. with a loader or to put a loader on. no first hand experience with one. is there a model or brand that seems to more reliable/easy to work with. i will be using the tractor without the loader most of the time, and i would not like a shuttle type tranny. is there experience people out there that could offer advice. thanks a lot

May I inquire as to why you prefer to rule out a shuttle shift transmission?

thanks again for the reply. i would prefer a standard trans, since i know very little about the automactic/shuttle trans. i would feel more comfortable with a standard. i would expect the shuttle type to more handier when using the loader, however i would be using the loader less than half the time. and, yes i think the ford would probably be one to fit my needs. thanks

Ah, that is the reason I asked--I have a shuttle transmission in my compact Ford utility tractor. While it is a "shuttle shift" it is entirely a standard trasmission. Not all shuttle shifts are automatics or hydrostats.

The shuttle shift on mine is entirely gear driven and simply moves from from forward to reverse with one lever in a straight line pattern. The fully sychronozied four speed transmission is shifted via a lever on the right side of the steering wheel. Comounding the four speeds are three ranges giving a total of 12 speeds forward and reverse.

Cb,
My vote would be a 5600/5610 Ford. Good loader tractors, strong front ends, decent hydraulics, good parts availabilty. Find a good dealer and buy a tractor the same color as what they sell. Roy

Are you looking for a crawler or rubber tired tractor?

i'm looking for a farm type tractor. with ps. by the way is it best to have the loader operate from the tractor's internal pump, or have a pump dedicated just to the loader. i am aware that there are some of each. but don't know which is best or more reliable. thanks for the reply.
