We've all seen the postings from people selling items and getting bogus replies and offers, I was just looking through the photo ads and saw an ad from Spain and two from the U.K. selling tractors and a skid steer for a third of what they're worth. Is it me or is there something rotten on this site? Say it ain't so Kim!

Of course YT is not behind these scams. But I'm sure you knew that. It's sad that they showed up here, but it is a problem that is internet wide.

Could some one please email me via the Reader Form and tell me exactly which photo ads they are? I'll delete them. And anytime this happens again please let me know and I'll take care of it.

Thank you!
Kim

Kim:

Thanks for the YT site it is terrific. Anyone who can read or write should know better than to waste time, and or money on these sort of deals. I know I am saving my money and holding out for a great deal on a bridge. (I am in a twelve step program and can't help myself. The devil made me do it.) It is beautiful here in upstate NY hope all are having a great day. Phil

Add #36 picture looks like the same one that was on EBay a while back. They were using the photos off a dealers site for there listings. EBay pulled the listing and the dealer thanked me for pointing it out. I can't find the dealer right now or I would look it up. Same parking lights, green lawn and setting for the photo. Mark H.

Thanks for the prompt attention Kim! In case you guys don't see the ads before they're deleted, a guy was selling a '99 case 95XT skid steer for $3900 (spain) and a woman from the U.K. was selling a JD 2950 w/loader for $6900 and a '03 JD $4115 for only $4800! I know YT has nothing to do with this, it just makes me mad that people are here trying to rip us off. YT is kind of like my neighborhood even if it's virtual.

Yes that is another scam. List a tractor for so much less than it is worth get the buyer to send payment and not get the tractor. I have seen them take pictures off a Tractor Sales place and put them on EBay using there pictures and discription. They don't even need a tractor to get the pictures from. Buyer and seller be aware! I have been finishing up my 1,200 gal Water Tender I built over the winter. Just got it inspected and signed on with the Forestry for fighting fires this year. I will contract it out to them on a daily rate as needed. It was quite the project to build and set up. Lot of stuff you have to put on them to meet there requirements! Mark H.

That's a really nice picture of your rig, probably if you wait a couple of days it will be on E-bay with a buy it now of $1295, with a seller in Bangladesh. You should watermark your pictures especially on this site with all the scammers that use it.

I am just curious... Do you have to carry liability insurance on that tender? I was the secretary for 8 years, and the president for 1 year on our local fire dept board of trustees {smalltown}. We opted to purchase our equipment from companies that specialized in building fire department trucks. The company had to carry a liability insurance against defects and major breakdowns {limited warranties} for a certain amount of time. If a truck "breaks down" on a run to a fire, and the department did not follow the State guidelines and rules for building, maintaining, and operating the vehicle... the department can be sued by the parties that loose their house or property... because the department did not respond to the fire.

If that tender breaks down while the foresty department is using it... could you be held liable???

That is why we never built our own tankers and brush trucks. Too much liabilities!

Yes I carry 2 MIL liability but they do not hold you accountable if it breaks down. Our contracts are if you can get there you get paid, if it breaks down no pay! Our libility insurance is for if while parked and you have someone trip over a hose and get hurt you are coverd. Also if I throw my hose to a truck and break a window or hit someone with it I am coverd for things like that. If we can't get there it just burns longer. The forestry does not drive it I do and I opperate every thing on it. Biggest part of my job is filling the smaller trucks up with water then going to get more. I can also wet down hela pads, fill drop buckets with foam/water mix, wet down sides of feilds and roads too. Mark H.

"Biggest part of my job is filling the smaller trucks up with water then going to get more."

Do you folks use "collapsable tanks" {or drop tanks}? Our departments us a canvas type of drop tank {imagine a small square canvas lined swimming pool} that the tankers can dump into. Several departments {mutual aid agreement} will haul water to a fire and dump it in the tank while a pumper will supply several lines or fill brush trucks from that drop tank. The supply tankers have huge dump valves {and chutes} on the backends that can unload the tanker into the collapsable tank, in a minute or less!

We use those too. I have a big dump valve on the back for that purpose also. Takes 3 mins or less to empty the tank on mine. We use those to pump and dip out of, but on some of the fires we fight you are on the move so the trucks can come to me or me to them. Mark H.
