I have a Massey Fergerson TO30 Tractor with a leaking PTO shaft seal.I have a IT shop manual which idicates that after unbolting the bearing retainer the shaft, and the retainer should pull out.

I am only able to pull the shaft out about 1.5 inches, and then it stops.

Can anyone advise me as to how to remove this shaft and retainer. Oh, and the original shaft has a 1-3/8 PTO adapter pinned to it. There is a relife in the bearing retainer that permits one to see the pin holding the adapter.

Can anyone give me some advice as to how to remove this shaft, and retainer?

Thank You very much.

Remove the 4 bolts and shaft assembly should pull out with the retainer. Only time I know of when this won't work is if the shaft is twisted by the pump and the splines won't slide thru. If such is the case you may have to torch the shaft off inside the tractor nad remove the hyd. pump. Search the archives on the Ferguson and 9N Ford boards or repost your question on the Ferguson board. Good luck.
