Hey guys,
Passing this along from an email I got today. Nobody buy gas on may 19th, this should put a knot in the shorts of the oil companies.
I know what some may say it won't do any good, but what could it hurt? It just might get us some relief from these high prices of which to me there is no sense.
Pass the word along, May 19th GAS OUT DAY!!!!!

I havent read everybodies reply but what Ive noticed all ready is the roads are bare around this part of the country not counting the interstate. So if people are all ready not driving it ether puts a crimp on the 19th or makes a bigger statement.

Do you really want to have some impact on the oil companies???

Do this.
Write all of your congressmen and demand that they push legislation for Biofuels.
Then what how they vote and re-write them.

Hypothetical Television Statement by President Bush:

The White House
Today

My Fellow Americans! I have noticed with great alarm the recent, unjustifiable trend towards drasticlly higher Gasoline prices. This is a very serious economic problem for this great country. In as much as neither myself nor my advisors can discover any reasonable cause for this new trend, I have resolved that the full weight and power of the United States Government should be brought to bear upon this unfortunate recent developement!

In as much as the petroleum industry appears to have no reason to provide fuels for American automobiles at reasonable market prices, or else they feal unable to do so, I propose that the United SAtates Government provide financial support for rapid introduction of economicly priced, fuel cell technology and that this alternative technology should be available and installed in American automobiles not later than June 1, 2008!

Additionally, having noted the failure of the petroleum industry to provide fuels at competitive prices, this new technology and alternative fuel system should be sold OUTSIDE of the existing retail system!

Provision for competition has always been the hallmark of the American way of doing things. Americans have always disliked monopolies. While the existing Petroleum industry cannot be called a "monopoly" dominated by any one individual company, taken as a whole, they have stiffled competition, discouraged developement of alternative resources not wholly owned and controlled by themselves, and indeed, in many, many markets, thier pricing tends to be by mutual agreement! This too, shall now recieve the scrutiny of the Justice department as well!

I feel that these measures will only mark the beginning of your government's efforts to ensure that our American economic recovery and well being are not jeapardized by the efforts of one industry!

I will be making further announcements, with greater details in the near future!

Thankyou, and Good Night!

>>>If you were to see the above announcement, I'd just bet that fuel prices would be tumbling before morning<<<

It is nonsense! Got the same email from several others recently. One day of withholding is nothing- to us or them. If their cashflow is so weak that one day of no money is going to bankrupt them..... ..and if drivers fill up the day before so they can say they cooperated with this plan..... ..the whole idea is stupid. Expect another price rise before Memorial Day, and it will last through the summer- just like for the last 30+ years.

If it makes you feel better. Course it won't help. If you want one of the reasons for high gas just go to the closest town and watch the traffic for a minute. Much bigger, much faster (lower milage) and larger cars/SUVs/motor homes. Years ago when the farmers first got into trouble a radio farm broadcaster said that if we wanted to blame some body "go look in the mirrow". He meant bigger tractors, better seed and long hours--but no control over production or sales. I've never forgotten that .

I get paid on the 20th so I won't have enough money to fill up on the 19th anyhow. I think I have enough left in the tank to make it that far.

may 19th is a wednesday, and in my area wednesday is the one day of the week that the gas stations have a 5-7 cent a gallon discount. they call it wacky wednesday . i fill my truck in the am and top it off in the pm when i get back from a run. some times i can go almost all week. so if i can save 5 cents on 300 - 400 gallons of fuel i'm going to take advantage. i might be, an old, dumb vermont, farm boy,but in my way of thinking i think the oil companys are the ones sending this email to us so we don't buy on the day they are giving us a discount.i won't buy on any other day if that helps. lol glenn

Glenn, you are thinking right, but there is no such thing as wacky wednesday around here, nor have I even heard of such a thing until now, you are fortunate, I would take advantage of it also if I could.

The same email has been going around for about 5 years now. Didn't work any other time, so why would it work now? Don't buy gas one day, you either fill up the day before or the day after. Same amount sold either way.

What a bunch of crap. You elect oil company men to run the country and than blame the opposition party for the problem.

Dear BOC,

As much as you would like to blame the current administration on the "high oil prices", world market conditions, high demand and a growing economy are all combining to drive the pricing conditions we see today. Gary in TX is also right on the money in pointing out that local laws passed in California and other states have created the need for unique gasoline formulae for refineries to contend with, not to mention transportation and distribution impacts. Before you start blaming our president and vice president, you should learn a little about US & global economics. I am always amused at folks that will complain about high gas prices, but won't blink when they pay more for bottled water than they pay for a gallon of gas. I was in Europe 12 years ago and gasoline was about $4/gallon. I don't know what it runs today but I bet it hasn't gone down. I am all for cheap gas or diesel, but you should consider that prices for many items have risen over the years and also compare those increases to the cumulative inflation rates over the same period. For those of us in any kind of business, rising prices are a fact of life, as are wages, insurance and other costs.

Around my area there are a lot of old wells that were taken out of production for one reason or another and they have a new law that makes you cap them if out of production over 1 year. Lot of oil left here just can't get to it.

I am one of those that says what good will it do.
Stations and oil companies figure their bottom line on a weekly or monthly amount. If I use 20 gallons a week and my normal day to get gas is Wed. but I go a day early and fill up on Tues. Or stretch it out till Thurs. I still used and bought my 20 gallons for this week. Only person I am hurting is me for the inconvenience.

Now if you said no on use gas on May 19th even if it means taking off a day at work and shut the entire road system down then you might have some thing. But I can tell you that will never work. You will not get every one to go along. Just look at the truckers strike of 20 years ago. They were shooting at drivers because they would not strike and still they had trucks on the road.
