We have 22 acres in the UK. We have a MF 135, as well as other smaller tractors. We make about 17 acres of hay. Any one got any reccomendations for a bigger tractor that we can take on about 10 mile hay delivery trips on the road. Id also like a loader to put a flat 8 grab on. Any one got any ideas? I like Massey, but am open to other makes. Thanks Ben

If it is within your budget,I would second Mike's idea of a Unimog. Can also be used for field work if a tractor goes down if optioned with pto and 3 pt.

Well, this might be really far off the mark, but have you ever considered a Mercedes Unimog?

That might be a cost effective solution if you can find one at the right price. Are they readily available in the UK?

Ben,

I really don't know anymore what they cost. They are not used here in the US hardly at all.

I used to work on farms over in Germany in the mid 80s and they were pretty popular amongst the farmers then.

Thought maybe you could find one in the UK. Good Luck to you over there.

Mike

Well seeing as how you are already predisposed to MF,I'd say look for a 300 or 600 series.

For the rest of the board that does not realise it,most farm comodities are roaded with tractors in Europe, unlike over here where we use trucks.

I yield to the power. Completely slipped my mind.

But 10 miles is a heck of a long distance to run with one or 2 bales on a tractor.

Im not talkin 1 or 2 bales.

Yes, we dont use pick up trucks as much on this side of the pond. Any way its more going to be on small lanes when you wouldnt go much faster than a tractor in a car with a trailer on it anyway.

Thanks anyway

Around here ,Ohio some of the farmers that run the roads alot are using tractors made by JCB. They are big and fast made for the road but no SMV cause they are faster than the 35MPH limit and no plates because its a tractor.

Long way for hay delivery on a tractor. Around here, we either use a dump trailer that off loads by it'self, a flatbed trailer requiring a tractor or some sort of load/unload device at either end,(both of which are pulled by a p/u truck) or for single bales, a hay spike mounted on the a$$ end of a 3/4 or 1 ton flatbed p/u.
