Guys came apon a bargan this last weekend. Two Troybuilt tillers one complete, needs tires and carb work the other is a parts rig. I need an Owners Manuel for a model "Horse II" they were built between 1978 and 1983. This thing is built like a tractor, heavy and strong.
I thought that someone out there might have an old one in their stack of old O.Ms. Called MTD and they want $40.00 for an OM on a 20+ year old machine. That is robbery IMO.
I uncovered, hollar, if anybody has one they will part with! Thanks.
Later,
John A.

A friend of mine bought a Well used troy-built Horse. I was able to down load an owners manual. Took quite a while but you can download it in sections. Go to Troybuilt.com Then click on "manuals" Type in "Horse" for the Model and for a S/n, use "1" I made a folder on my computer for it and put each section in the folder. It is in the Adobe Acrobar reader format so you have to have that program (Free) to open it. The nice thing about it is you can use the computer to enlarge each picture in the parts list. Also you can print only the pages that pretain to what you are working on.

try looking in used book stores and tractor shows you can find a lot of used manuals there. i have had 5 troybilts all were basket cases when i got then.rebuild them till about 200-250 gardens a spring and sell them .not bacause i dont like them .just gives me something to do all winter. just keep eye on oil level in gear box , the seals always seep a bit, and take tines off once a year to remove trash that gets behind them. seals last longer . and if you have never ran one go easy at first the horse name was not a accident if you set them too deep it will pull your arm off. they fly when the wheels lift off the ground ,the tine to wheel speed is 13-1 ,so that is why you can't just bury them like a front tine. dont get me wrong they are a great machine do a great job ,but just be careful they can turn into a hand full in a heart beat.

Troy was bought out by MTD i believe, and the new Troys aren't what they use to be. They never was the best tiller, but they sure had the best advertisement department!!!

It's always too bad when a company like Troy folds though!!

The company known as GardenWay was located in Troy, N.Y. on 9th Ave. for many years, made the best tiller for many years, I still have one, it was really unfortunate when they left Troy, I'm not sure what happened, but like so many long established business's in Troy (which was booming way back in the industrial revolution ) that had to leave or went under. One of the senators from my town ( I live just outside of Troy ) tried to help them with incentives to stay, (I'm not one for politicians but he's one I like, he's done a lot for the community and the state ) to no avail they folded up, were bought and subsquently moved to Minnesota or Wisc. where a lot of these products are Mfr.'d A lot of people lost jobs, just another sad story, and another loss for Troy, N.Y. which I blame on the state of N.Y. for not helping business's like these, they were not the first to have left.

I have two of these tillers - I got replacement owners manuals from Troy-bilt - they didn't even charge me for them back then. They've fallen on hard times lately though. Have you tried calling them? They used to be very good to deal with.

Come to think of it, I haven't received a "Troy Bilt Owner's News" from them for several years. I remember when I got mine back in the 70's, it was almost a cult-type situation- they had the one tiller that you could operate with "just one hand", and everybody was so thrilled with them. I still have mine, and it works great- but now there are rear tine tillers everywhere, many or all of which are less money- So Troy is just another (expensive) face in the crowd.

Hey John -
I will try to download tomorrow from work. I have one of those tillers and could also use the manual. I have had it since new. Man what a nice rig to own. I have changed oil faithfully and rig still starts on 2nd pull with original plug.

I thought of selling it but it SO DEPENDABLE I can't get myself to do so. I keep it for odd jobs and rent my time out to till small garden plots for city folk. Shoot me an email so I have your addy and I will file "zipped".

Check the Troy Built web site; some material is down-loadable, can't remember exactly what.

Good luck

Thanks, But on all old manuels it will have to come out of archives. The man said there was a way to do it but he thought it would take over an hour to down load. And with my poor dial-up service I'll bet that half of the info wouldn't be there.
Thanks again,
John A.
