I am glad to know that the newer Duramax/Allison combo 3/4 tons have an overdrive lockout. But my 2002 model does not. I would love to have the ability to keep out of OD in hill country loaded. Is there anything I can do within reason to change my '02 (buying newer not an option). Is there a good board somewhere that y'all may know of where to ask such non tractor questions. (ps loaded means pulling a gooseneck with a JD720 and an JD LA). tks for your help.

Ray, do you have the 4sp chevy or 5sp Allison tranny (I think you can get the Duramax either way - can't remember for sure). Anyway, I have the 5 speed. Inside my shift lever has D,3,2,1. It also has the haul/tow button on the of the shifter. Pressing this button helps by changing when it shifts but does not lock out 5th(OD). When the going gets tough and you pull the shifter down to "3", it in effect locks it out of 4th and 5th(OD) as it gears down to 3rd which really turns up the engine.
I understand on the newest turcks with Allison you can push the tow/haul button twice or something like that (have not operated one personally)and lock out 5th only.
I have always wanted to have ability to lock out 5th, but now that I understand the new trucks can I got it on my mind again.
thoughts appreciated
