Real hot coil

Recently aquired a H Farmall with dist ignition. Temporarily parked in driveway so pulled coil wire as a children mischief deterent. 4 hours later, coil was red hot and batt nearly dead. Think coil is fried, Any thoughts on what might have happened?

Not on purpose but..... ..... ...went thru start process when discovered so not sure.

George,

Did you leave the ignition switch on?

It's gonna get hot if it sets there with the points closed and running juice to ground.
