I cannot seem to locate any gear oil that is heavier than 80w-140w. Doeas anyone know where I can find heavier weight oil like 140w or 150w? I need somthing real thick to put in my unsyled-B tractor transmission. Thanks for any help - Greg

If you are serious about wanting a heavier gear oil, contact some of the Ford Model A restoration places. The Model A used 600 wt oil in its transmission, and it is still available from restoratation houses. I've included a link.

I know that STP's 200w. Used it years ago in the tranny of my '69 K-20 because had a broken or chipped tooth in a gear. Smoothed things right out. Was murder in winter though after the truck sat out all night in freezing temps. Took both hands to move the lever around until got warmed up.

Are you sure it says 80w-140w and not 80w-140?
Usual convention is a cold- followed by a hot rating, so unless the oil you have seen actually has two SAE viscosity values at the same time....it will be rated as 80 when cold (w rating) and 140 when hot. Too heavy an oil will have a lower pour point and will not behave as a lubricant at low temps, so you may not gain anything - you may well need even thicker oil to stop the noise in the short term
