My 4320 Deere and Oliver 1655 were both stuck. I stood them up side by side and filled an oil can with diesel fuel. Every time I walked by them, I applied some more diesel fuel. After about three months, they both turned by hand. I have a second 1655 that I have been soaking with diesel fuel for about six months, and it is still stuck, but I'll keep at it. I don't like to heat something like a top link.

I have to also agree with Indy, brake fluid mixed will eat rust but I always mixed with 2 stroke oil never thought of fuel.

Maybe I have a cheap one, but they only cost about $25.

Is it worth the anguish and the solvents?

Tommie: Some of the favorites are diesel, brake fluid, transmission fluid, PB Blaster, and Coca-Cola. Some other ones that I've heard but not tried are Kroil (the Kanolabs link below), ammonia, candle wax and vinegar. Patience is the biggest key--it may take several days for the fluid to soak in to where the problem is. I use heat a lot, but you've got to be careful not to over-heat the part, resulting in melting, cracking, or taking the temper out. Often a good heating followed by a cold-water quench will pop a stubborn part free, but I've seen this crack parts as well--best to be careful if it's an expensive part to replace!

Tapping with a small hammer often helps. Not to damage the part, but to vibrate it. I have 2 oz, 4 oz, and 8 oz ball pein hammers that I use for this.

If your not in a hurry I lean it against something and spray or apply the chemicals that Indy mentioned so that it runs down the treads

I had one last spring that was really stuck. The guy that brought it in had already heated it to almost cherry with no success. As is noted elsewhere, time is a wonderful thing. Drilled a small access hole half way down (as far as the thread on the outside went) then I heated it dull red, used 1/2 motor oil, 1/2 brake fluid. Repeated again every day for 1 week. Finally, broke loose. I may have affected the temper but it is back in service and a $25.00 bet won :>

Over the years I've found that there are any number of things that'll work for what you're trying to do. I've soaked things in diesel fuel, brake fluid, old motor oil, paint thinner, and even penatrating oil. I've had the best results with a mixture of diesel fuel and brake fluid. (I got ahold of a 55 gallon drum of contaminated brake fluid years ago. I'm still using it)

Sometimes heating things will have a negative effect. I try to use that ONLY as a last resort. JMHO John

The biggest problem I have with heating a stuck part is the heat dries out what you are trying to seperate and will cause it to gaul tighter. My .02 worth.
