Over the last year I have noticed some gas in the oil when I have changed it. And twice in the past month I have found the crankcase oil completely diluted with gasoline. The engine will run for about one minute and creates a lot of white smoke. Whats causing the dilution and what needs to be done.

Sounds like the carburetor float is allowing too much gasoline into the bowl, and the excess is going into the engine. This is BAD NEWS!!! It washes away the lubrication and causes the engine to run DRY! This in turn leads to engine failure and with Kohler that means big$$$$. You need to repair or replace the carburetor before running the engine much more or you may damage the engine.

The float valve in the carburetor is sticking and not closing properly, or has dirt in it.

The other possibility, does this engine have a fuel pump operated by crankcase pressure fluctuations that could be leaking?

Either way, shutting the gas off at the tank valve after each use will prevent this until it can be repaired, and even then, is a good policy.
