Rip saws' teeth are swaged. Crosscut saws' teeth are set. It would be easier to take a rip saw (like on a sawmill) and turn it into a crosscut (buzz saw) than it would to go the other way.
You can file alternate corners off swaged teeth to give them "set" but it would be quite the project to take teeth that have been set and swage them. I wouldn't want to do it.

I buy some lumber from a farmer who has a small mill run off a tractor's pto.

It doesn't cut very accurately, but it is fast and cheap, compared to a band mill.

I will have to agree with Nebraska Cowman. We started with a 48 inch blade, went to a 52 inch blade. Still can't cut a very big log. You need room over the spindle or arbor shaft for the carriage to run.

Different hook angle on the teeth; cross-cut versus rip..... ..

no, a 24 inch blade ain't near big enough to cut 10 inch timbers. To get a ten inch timber you are looking at a log maybe 20 inches on the big end. I'd say a 36 inch blade would be a bare minimum and 40 or better would be best. I'd try buying one of those bandsaw mills. I bet you get back in Amish country you could pick up a good one for less than $2500.

Shot if I found one for $500 it would be more then I could spend at this time. Oh well I guess I'll go back to my chain saw mill again it works just slow

Old, does your saw use a different chain for ripping? Or does the normal chainsaw chain work?

A normal one works but it is better if you have a ripping chain. The set up I have is call an Alsaka mill sorry about not spelling it right.
