Dennis,

Just slap me if I fall asleep--I just re-read your post and now realize that you intend to DRIVE to the tractor back to NC. To figure how much time--I would figure on what, about 50 miles per day??? That works out to 60 days, not including other factors such as breakdowns, stops along the way, etc. Cancel my estimate on costs per day--I was figuring hotel and restaurant meals--not roughing it along the way like the settlers did...

Dennis,

We did a road trip a couple years back from the FL panhandle to Idaho (Pocatello area) with our 36' gooseneck. On the way up we went through the Dallas area and up through OK, KS and then across through Denver and then up into Idaho. On the way back we stopped at Yellowstone and Mt. Rushmore (try pulling a 36' with tractors onboard up to Rushmore) and then through SD and then headed south through MO, KY, TN, etc, back to FL. 5200 miles in 9 days with the whole family. You're looking at somewhere near 3000 miles, so I would figure a week--go weekend to weekend to allow for some R&R and sightseeing along the way. Two weeks would even be better. Allow $100 per day for expenses + fuel. Wish we could go along with you but we're still cleaning up hurricane debris and doing repairs on the house.

It sounds like it would be a fun trip. I would love to do it. But I don't have the time. I think a fairly sizeable trailer with enough space for comfortable camping equipment, tools, gas, oil, etc. would be the way to go. Maybe with a covered sleeping area for rain. You would want to be sure the tractor is up to such a trip. Is it one you know, or did you just buy it? Let us know if you do it, and keep a log of the trip so you can write a book, or at the least post it here.
