Looking for cheap hp, was wondering how a jd 4630, witch is only 1000 rpm, will do on a 535 rd baler and a 926 disc bine? A buddy of mine does this with big ih"s and say"s he runs half throdle and saves on feul. I"m not convinced this is a good ideal. Will be doing this on bottom land and some hill ground and doing some light tillage with it. 4430"s are high piced so can I make this work? Thanks for your help.

If you want to use this 1000 rpm tractor, CONVERT THE MACHINERY! Both of those machines also came in 1000 rpm I'm sure. IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS to overrev those machines with nearly double their intended rpm. Converting the discbine and baler to the correct rpm will only SOUND expensive---expensive that is, until you try running them @ 1000 rpm, unconverted! All of the best intentions of only using half throttle won't help with one little lapse on the part of the operator-----

True but you need to keep yer eyeball on the tach and since about 1000 rpm is half throttle for the 2000 to 2100 PTO rpm Deere's I've had and idle is around 600, you don't have much room for error.

I agree that the baler may be run at 1000 correctly with a kit. My JD 530 manual talks about both and my 530 is clearly marked on the tongue "540 rpm only".

I pulled this stunt with a bush hog type mower once. Had a 100 hp tractor and a 6' mower. Was a lot quieter and better fuel economy, but had to watch her.

Now there isn't near as much rollin on a mower than a baler so the results of error are much greater for you.

With some machines it is only a matter of flipping the gearbox over to convert from 540 to 1000 rpm. My NI round baler was that way. No parts to buy.

Yes, I think that's the way it is on a lot of machines. You would still need the correct fittings for the pto shaft, however, A machine fitted with the 540 rpm pto shaft won't attach to a 1000 rpm pto stushaft.

Right- I did have to buy that. In fact, breaking the 540 yoke was the incentive for making the switch, since I often used the same tractor for the 1000 rpm field chopper or the 540 baler, and then did not have to switch pto shafts.
