I hauled off 7440lbs of scrap steel today and got $240 for it, from what I figure thats 0.03 a lbs. I'm I right?? If I am thats what I got for it 20 years ago. So if I'm right we are being screwed again right??

old,
we hauled about 6 loads of mixed steel in last fall, got $50.00 a ton. Clean steel, meaning all iron, no tin, or anything was bringing $150.00 a ton. so, if you had mixed steel, you got the going price in Central Illinois

Old,
You need to sort your scrap. Most money is in 4 ft cut. 4 ft long or less angle, flat and bar. If the scrap yard has to sort the scrap the price goes way down. 4 ft cut is $140/ton here right now.

Yesterday I was at my son-in-law's, he took his cutting torch into the woods to cut up an old Allis Chalmers pull combine that was left by the previous owner, has saplings growing through at places. I thought it made a "conversation piece" and brought back memories for me, to him it was an eyesore even though it was out of sight of buildings and road. I didn't ask what he was getting for the scrap.

Yup, I work on the other end of the chain trying to buy steel for production stamping. The cost of scrap goes down and the price ot steel to buy has gone WAY up.Alot of it is goingto China and then coming back to us in the form of new items. Really putting a crunch on manufacturers here...

That is all I get here in my part of Calif. 0.03 a lb. I have some real good heavy iron most is short iron under 3 ft. What I have going is the company brings a roll off, and don't charge for the container. The way I see it is I am getting rid af a lot of stuff that will never be used again, and most of has served it's purpose in life. Stan

Around me you would have gotten almost twice that on good steel. We are getting $120 to $140 a ton and you had almost 4 ton.

That was a couple of old cars and what I could put in them. I still think it may not be worth my time at that price

Around here car bodies bring about half or less than what "clean" steel brings..I hauled a load a couple months ago, think it was $74 a ton then for dirty, but the price changes daily..
