The "Wizard" brand of equipment sold by Western Auto was made by several companies including Gilson, Bolens Toro, MTD, AYP, and Murray. Sounds like you've got a Bolens Power-Ho Deluxe. Bolens company was tied to Gilson - FMC (Food Machinery & Chemical Co.) - Link Belt. Deluxe has the front face place whereas the special does not. Bolens type number is 12BB01. 5" X 12" tires, variable drive sheave, and a 1 1/2 or 2 horse engine with 6-1 gear reduction. I've got several of them in Bolens and Wizard brand names. The Wizards have Tecumseh or Clinton engines - I forget - I'd have to go to the barn to look. A few years ago I was driving through West Point, New York during "junk day" and found two, brand-new old-stock Wizard walk-behind tractors thrown out in the junk. Also in the pile was a bunch of new-old-stock attachments including front mower, snowblower, culitvators, sickle-bar, and snow blade. I could of cried - since I was in my car, not my truck. My wife and I managed to get one tractor half-way into the trunk and tied it in. I had to leave the rest behind - and I was 120 miles from home. What a shame, the rest got thrown out I guess.

You are correct, Eric, Wizard was the Western Auto brand mower that was made by MTD. My dad had a Western Auto for over 30 years until he died, and I worked there after school and summers...

DO YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION ON THESE LEFTOVER FROM THE STORE? I KNOW THEY WERE MADE IN THE LATE 50'S - EARLY 60'S, SO I DON'T KNOW IF MTD WAS AROUND THEN? I THINK THEY MAY HAVE BEEN MADE BY BOLENS FOR WESTERN AUTO AND SOMETIME IN THE 70'S MAYBE MTD PICKED IT UP? MY FRIEND HAS ONE THAT IS IDENTICAL TO MY OTHER FRIENDS ROUND FRONT BOLENS WHICH I THINK IS 1959? (I'D HAVE TO ASK HIM, I FORGET). THAT'S WHAT I WAS REFERRING TO. THANKS.
ERIC
P.S. I'M NOT AN EXPERT ON THESE, JUST TRYING TO FIND OUT MORE, ANY LITERATURE OR OTHER TRACTORS AS NO ONE HAS SEEN ONE AROUND MY AREA.
