Does anyone know a source for weld-on bushings for loaders? I recently purchased an old International 1701 loader, and the holes are really worn so that there"s at least a 1/16 - 1/8 inch gap around the pins. I"ve tried to find a supply of bushings, but no success.

There are lots of ways to come up with bushings. Most industrial supply companies sell them, e.g. McMaster-Carr at: Link , or Enco, etc. McMaster has hardened steel bushings from 3/4" i.d. to 2" i.d. Go to their website and punch in this part number to look at a bushing: 58365k29 You can also buy hardened bushing stock in lengths - but if you only need a few bushings, it's not worth it since the minimum is usally 10' or 20'. This works well if you know someone that stocks the lengths and will cut you off small pieces. Another option - if you have access to crawler track pins and bushings - and can find the size you need - just slice them down to the length needed.

Try Connex bushings. We found out about them because we do a good bit of portable line boring work for Norfolk Southern railroad. They use them all the time because their great for just the type of problem you've got. If the meat is there around the hole you can have the existing holes line bored oversize and simply put in a Connex bushing and take it back to the origional pin size. Here is a link to their site.

Connex bushings are great. The only thing to watch for is the hardness of the pin. I can't remember how hard they should be, but it is over 50 rockwell C for sure. Where I used to work we used them on loader arm pivots. If the pins are too soft, they will wear out quickly if not lubricated properly. The bushings will show no sign of wear.
