A four cylinder engine is inherently unbalanced. These early four cylinders ran relatively slow so vibration wasn't to bad. Modern high speed four cylinders have balance shafts the counter act the vibrations and smooth them out. You just have to live with some vibration in old farmalls but at least they are nothing like the two cylinder bone rattlers of a green color.

Some of the older tractors had opposed piston engines, but these aren't seen anymore except in garden tractors, motorcycles and Subarus. Some European engines, in ships, locomotives, tractors and airplanes used pistons meeting in the middle of the cylinder with crankshafts both above and below, geared together. Others just had one crankshaft, but had a pair of connecting rods going down from the upper piston to the lower crankshaft on the outside of the cylinder. And then there's the twin rotor Wankel used in Mazda Rxs.

On a lot of older tractors you will find a build up of grease and dirt ,on and in, the front pulley that can cause vibration.

There not like cars, the engines, tranny etc are mounted on iron with no rubber in between so you will feel the engine etc. There is no fix that is just how it is and should be.

Theory of relativity: Everything is relative. Make friends with someone who collects old Johnny poppers and ask to drive one. Afterwards your tractors will have smoothed right out.

Even better - try a single cylinder machine, like a Field Marshall or Lantz. They don"t just vibrate - they resonate!
