I have about 2 acres of rough grass to mow.I,in the future, would like to plow it up,disk it and level it off. Then after it grows back use a finish mower on it instead of my lawn mower. What type of older little tractor should I look for. I am a mechanic by trade and don't mind working on the older stuff plus I don't want to hock my house to by a new one.

Well - I use my 49 8N for mowing (sickle and hogging) about 10-12 acres out of 101, blading, 2 bottom plow, seeding, planting, small loader, pull a sprayer, discing, PHD, hauling, etc, etc. Grew up with IHC "H" and "M", without live power, so never needed it. With only a couple acres to take care of , an "N" should do you fine. I have a Farmall 460 for heavy loader work, and an "M" , but use the 8N 90% of the time. I find plenty for it to do.

Farmal cub, 59" belly mower, single bottom plow and a 5" double disk. Wouldn"t hurt to have a blade also

zerkle76, You want a minimum 35 hp tractor with 3ph and with live pto, or better yet, independent pto. Power steering is nice but not essential. Your choice as to gas or diesel, but diesel uses a lot less fuel. Its much better to get one that a nearby dealer supports. MF135 is popular and holds its value well. I would prefer a Ford 3000 or 4000 since they have can have 8 speed transmission, to the 135 MF's 6 speed. John Deere 2020 is good. I don't reccommend a John Deere 2010. John Deere 1520 also good. I had an Oliver 550 and loved it. There are several models of Internationals that are that size, like 424 and 444. Sit on them first and see if they are comfortable to you. Some of them have a crowded operator area. Ford 8N, 9N, 2N, don't have live power and are built too light. Some Ford 800, 600, have live power. Good luck, KEH
